What colleges should I look into?

<p>Hey, all :)
I know there are some very knowledgeable people on this board and I'd love some opinions. I'm a very music-oriented person, but my music school research I'm keeping separate - this thread is for (hopefully!) a few suggestions for academic schools that fit me, since I'm not positive on whether or not I want to go the music route.</p>

<p>Stats:</p>

<p>Race: white
Gender: female
Residence: Northern Virginia (but I am not limited to in-state schools)
Economic status: middle class. only child, but my mom is currently attending GMU to finish a degree (not sure if that matters).
School: your average large public high school (almost 3000 students)</p>

<p>Grades:</p>

<p>(note: at my school, an A is a 93-100, B+ is a 90-92, B an 84-89, and so on. we don't have A-'s or anything)</p>

<p>Seventh grade high school classes:
French I: A
Algebra I: B+</p>

<p>Eighth grade high school classes:
French II: A
Geometry: A</p>

<p>Freshman year
Advanced biology: A
French III: A
Algebra II/Trig: A
Advanced Humanities English 9: A
Symphonic Band: A
Advanced Humanities World History: A
Health/PE I: A</p>

<p>Sophomore year
Advanced Humanities English 10: A
French V: A
(explanation: I skipped a year of French because French IV was the same period as my band class, and there is only one class of each. Although I took French V, it will be listed on my transcript as French IV.)
Chemistry: A
AP European History: A (don't know AP test results yet, probably a 3 or 4)
Functions/Analytic Geometry: B+
Symphonic Band: A
Health/PE II/Driver's Ed: A</p>

<p>GPA: hasn't been calculated yet for this year. At the end of freshman year it was 3.945 UW, it's probably close to the same now.</p>

<p>Next year's schedule (junior year):
AP English 11
AP French V
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics (probably C, maybe B)
US History
Symphonic Band
Music Theory (maybe Piano)</p>

<p>Extra Curriculars:</p>

<p>Music: (I'm a clarinetist)
-All-County band 9-12 (first chair 9 and 10 so far)
-All-District band 9-12 (third chair 9, first chair 10)
-All-State eligible 9-12, with a bit of luck all state in 11 or 12
-Superior ratings in solo festivals 10-12 (projected)
-Member of top band in our school (which is a fine+performing arts magnet) 9-12, first chair 10 so far, probably next year too
-Played in the pit for the musical The Wizard of Oz (10)
-Summer study at Shenandoah Conservatory (9-10) and Indiana University (10)
-Principal clarinetist of Prince William Youth Symphony Orchestra
-Performed at Carnegie Hall with PWYSO (10) as part of the New York Orchestra Festival
-Various small local music awards
-Member of my high school's CFPA program (center for Fine and Performing Arts) 9-12 (this requires juries every year and participation in music seminars and activities)</p>

<p>Other:
-Varsity Cross Country 9-12 (captain 11 if I'm lucky)
-Varsity Indoor Track 9-12
-Varsity Outdoor Track 9-12
-Varsity letters: 2 for cross country, 1 for indoor track, 2 for outdoor track (so far)
-Blue Ridge Running Camp at Eastern Mennonite University (9)
-Ballet dancer with the Potomac Ballet and the Maryland Youth Ballet (9)... performed twice yearly in productions of the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty</p>

<p>SAT's: I was in the CTY at John's Hopkins as a kid, so I took the old one in seventh grade and scored a 1210 (550M, 660V). I took the PSSS this year, but no results yet.</p>

<p>A few notes on colleges:
-I don't want to give up music entirely in college, so I'd prefer a school with some sort of fairly decent music department that I can take classes in even if I major in something completely different.
-Size is honestly not a big deal to me. I loved my two stays at Shenandoah U, which is smaller than my high school, but I'm independent enough to be okay with a big school, too.</p>

<p>So in summary: If I continue my academic and extracurricular trends, what (non-music) schools should I look into? I've come up with a few that look good to me (Northwestern, Shenandoah, CMU), but would love opinions and suggestions to help me get my research started! :)
Thanks!</p>

<p>is your CMU, carnegie mellon?</p>

<p>great SAT score at a young age... Your stats look good...keep it up</p>

<p>suggestions:
Miami University (Ohio)... has a large private school feel but is public (15,000 kids- undergaduate focus)
<a href="http://www.fna.muohio.edu/musweb/index.htmlx%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.fna.muohio.edu/musweb/index.htmlx&lt;/a>
Lots of Out of State students for a public school</p>

<p>I would also suggest
Duke <a href="http://www.duke.edu/arts.html%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.duke.edu/arts.html&lt;/a>
private... similar to Northwestern
Beautiful gothic architecture</p>

<p>Yes I meant Carnegie Mellon- sorry for being unclear. Thanks for the suggestions! :)</p>

<p>As I often do, I have to suggest Rice.</p>
