This is just something that came to my head when looking at the another post. Which Colleges/Unis if someone asked you you thought was most famous, would immediatly come to your mind? I would immediatly think Oxbridge and Ivy League. But even then in no particular order, I would think, Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Yale. What do you think?

Yes, I would agree.

I would think Oxbridge and some Ivy's. Maybe MIT.

Famous amongst whom? Ignorant Public or Academicians?

Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale.

Pretty much, I'd add Stanford and MIT and Berkeley to the list too.

The OP wasn't talking about just famous colleges, but the most famous colleges. Those are pretty much the same for people in academia, employers and the general public.

No. People in Texas think that Rice is as prestigious as Harvard. Half of America confuses Penn with Penn state. Asians (living in Asia) haven't even heard of Williams and Amherst, whereas in professional school (B-School, Med School) enrollment, these colleges do better than ivies (less HYP).

(Off-Topic:
BTW, Abhi, where are you going for college?)

I think that everyone, even those who have never attended a university or don't know much about it, knows about Harvard and Oxford. Then Yale and Cambridge.

aw5k: I am waitlisted at three(Williams, Amhrest, Colby). If I don't get in from the waitlist, I would be either attending Jacobs or an Indian college and then applying Williams as transfer or freshman(ED).
