What colleges would be a match?

Hey,

I am a junior, and with the academic year ending, am already far too behind on my College Search. I intend to go for a CS Major; I harbor a good interest for the subject. What colleges should I go for, that would be a match?

Please do recommend some match & safety colleges... Also where do you think I stand on the HYSPM front? Just curious :P

Thanks a ton!

Those schools are reaches. You are a great candidate, but those schools generally only admit a few hundred international students each.

Try the top state schools, such as UCLA, which admitted 32% of international applicants last year (as opposed to 3-8% at HYPSM).

As Bubbles said, top publics will probably suit you well.

Berkeley, UIUC, Mich are all good options for CS.

Matches/Safeties

Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech
UIUC
RPI
Northeastern
Case Western

What do you think about the Ivy Leagues? And which private colleges, with a good CS program, would be a match/safety?
Well, I do have another year, and I can work towards strengthening my app further…

Safety: Rochester Institute Of Technology (RIT) New York

Any thoughts?

R -
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
MIT
Stanford
Cornell
Columbia
Carnegie Mellon
University of Pennsylvania

Not sure about the CS program at Brown & Dartmouth

M/S -
Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech
University of California, Los Angeles
University of California, Berkeley

New York University
Boston University
Emory University
George Washington University
Georgetown University

So far you have around 20 schools in the most different locations and of a variety of sizes.

I I were you I would now continue by choosing your absolute favorite schools for each of the three categories, around 2-3. Then you could add schools that are like those and make a list of no more than 12-14. I know that it is though for internationals, but it’s better to have stronger applications to fewer schools than the other way round! You should also check whether you can find a favorite school that offers an early action program. That would be a great option.

You really need to decide what you want in a school (size, location, weather, student body, cost, etc), and look more closely at each school. Instead of just throwing all the ivies and top public schools on a list, you should narrow it down to ones that truly interest you the most. You may want to use a college matching program or website if you can’t decide
