<p>I don't think it matters much- just pick one that you feel you can write the best essay on.</p>

<p>colleges look for a diverse student body, which is what they ask themselves, "can this person bring diversity to the campus?" So maybe thats why you've heard that. </p>
<p>OP, there really isn't one perferrred. Whichever one you can most passionately write about.</p>
