What computer should I get?

I have 1500 dollars to spend on it?
Is that enough for a good college computer that will last me 3-4 years?

The Apple MacBook pro is the one to get, but I think it costs a little more.

Get the Macbook. $1500 will more than cover it.

You’re going to buy it through Dartmouth, aren’t you? I doubt you’ve gotten the written information from the school yet, but, based on past years, the computer will come pre-loaded with Dartmouth software (i.e. blitz) Also, I think you get tech support on campus…Current students, help me out!

@Shazz12: sounds about right. When you get it through the school, the computer comes pre-loaded with pretty much everything you’ll need, and people at the computer help desk will basically set up your computer for you when you first get your computer (be careful, as the lines are absurdly long the day when everyone’s arriving). I think people who bring their own computer can also get stuff set up for them at the help desk, but I’m not positive about this.

I got the PC (high-end package, $1850ish) because I’m more familiar with PCs than Macs. I’ve heard mostly positive reviews from friends switching to Macs, though I know at least one person who wishes he’d stuck with a PC. Ultimately it doesn’t really matter for academics, as the PC/Mac split among students (about 50-50) usually forces compatibility for both types of systems. I haven’t yet encountered any situation in which one would have been preferable over the other.
