What concentration accounting or finance?

I'm not saying that it is a perequisite to have a finance or marketing degree to become a CEO, just noting the correlation. And that most everyone around him had studied finance even though their current position might not deal with it. I just see finance as a very versatile degree to have

As an accounting major, one thing I have noticed is that Finance and Accounting are very similar. Accounting, however, studies more of how to create financial statements (rules and regulations/where the information comes from). Finance studies how to interpret financial statements, but not necessarily how to make them. Thus, IMO, a degree in accounting is more beneficial even in finance related jobs, simply because of the depth of the major.

yeah, I thought they would be pretty similar. From what I've seen though, doing the grunt work is just a phase that one needs to trudge through, not really something for a career.

It really isn't that simple. Finance involves a lot more than financial statement analysis (just as accounting involves more than just financial statement preparation). If we're talking about anlyst positions that involve a lot of financial statement analysis, then knowing financial accounting is extremely useful; however, if we're talking about corporate finance positions, then there's little need to understand financial statements (beyond knowing how to make your own look better). The emphasis is more on things like managing the cost of capital, evaluating investment opportunities and determining your dividend policy. At the same time, accountants who work in upper level management positions focus on managing internal controls, which are incredibly important. Both are very different specialties, but both are needed.

Why dont u just major in both like I will be doing?

Hey does anyone think doubling finance and accounting and minoring something else is going to murder me if I get into Stern? What about if I get into Ross?
