I surprised also but wish good luck!
Maybe pretty busy on Feb. or March.
I am wondering how many percent of school do you know or have some experience (Just like summer program, faculty (at least sample lesson), or college visit) among applied schools? Is there any school which you do not have any relation or experience?

For classical double bass performance:
(in no order)

University of North Texas

Oberlin Conservatory

Duquesne University (Mary Pappert School of Music)

Manhattan School of Music

New England Conservatory

Texas Tech University

West Texas A&M University

Not too sure how I’m going to handle missing so much school and flying around with my bass that much. Even my in state universities are too far to drive to. I’m very excited though I’ve been reading these forums for over a year now waiting for my turn for auditions.

I’m nervous about schools so I’ve applied to 12…

USC

UCLA

San Francisco Conservatory

Cleveland Institute of Music

Manhattan School of Music

New England Conservatory

Northwestern

Rice

University of Texas at Austin

University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Mannes

Peabody

I really wish more of these schools would offer Saturday/Sunday auditions. Most auditions are during the first semester of senior year for my S and his grades matter a LOT.

My son is applying to the following for jazz performance/music business

Berklee
University of Texas Austin
CCNY
College of St. Rose
Hartt School/U hartford
Frost School/U Miami
U Mass Amherst.

Poor kid. He’s in the middle of multiple essays right now. Can’t wait until this process is over.

Well never mind on Duquesne, they’ve had a bit of a change in faculty.

Also applying to Mannes now!

Does anyone actually know anything about Mannes for undergrad strings? All I have heard is that they have a rigorous music theory requirement, which I would enjoy, and things about VP.

So now…
- University of North Texas
- Oberlin Conservatory
- Mannes
- Manhattan School of Music
- New England Conservatory
- Texas Tech University
- West Texas A&M University

Hey everyone. I’m a soprano and I’m applying to:

Northwestern
Rice
University of Michigan
Michigan State
Indiana
Florida State
BU
Syracuse
Miami
Vanderbilt

S applied BM Jazz Studies Performance to:

Manhattan School of Music
NEC
Berklee
New School Jazz & Contemp Music (BFA)
NYU Steinhardt
USC Thornton
Cornish College of the Arts
University of Washington SOM
Fordham Lincoln Center BA Music (Accepted EA)

Oh sorry, I’m applying for vocal performance.

D is VP major and has applied to:

Rice
Northwestern
IU
U of Michigan
FSU

She has audition dates from U of Michigan & FSU, so far…

Son is composition major. He has applied to:

Oberlin (accepted early review)
but will follow through with applications already filed to:

NEC

University of Missouri - Columbia

That’s great he applied (and knew about) Columbia. I think that’s really an up and coming new program. My son would have applied to the summer festival but he had a conflict. Maybe next year…

Not to mention the draw of two full composition scholarships.

I’m a music education major (principal instrument-flute) and I applied to:
- Boston University
- Northwestern
- DePaul University
- USC
- University of Northern Iowa (state safety)
I also applied to UChicago and Yale (my parents wanted me to apply somewhere academically prestigious), but since they aren’t exactly known for music, they’re sort of like last resorts (assuming I actually get in).
I did prescreening cd’s for Northwestern and USC, and starting next month, I have 3 (maybe 4, depending on my Northwestern cd) auditions.

U of C is known for it’s great graduate music program. Undergrads just spend Saturday night in the library.

Don’t underestimate the music scene at Yale, either. Even though Yale University does not offer a BM, some very talented undergrads go through their BA program and wind up in grad performance programs that are very well known. There are several very good ensembles there. Speaking of prestigious graduate music schools, Yale School of Music is no slouch.

I should have specified a bit; I meant not known for music as undergrad degrees. I will most likely not be going to grad school for music.

Composition major:
Oberlin
Peabody
Boston Conservatory
Ithaca
Suny Purchase
UNCSA
Lynn U
WCU
