What Constitutes "Rigorous Coursework"?

Hello,

I'm looking to transfer to a Uni next fall as a junior and every college website I visit suggests that transfer hopefuls should take "rigorous coursework" to help their chances.

I understand this means don't stack your schedule with basket weaving classes, but what about the opposite end of that? Should, say, psych or history majors be taking a bunch of math and science classes and jeopardize their GPA just so their coursework is more rigorous? "Rigorous" is such an ambiguous term.

I beg of you, please let me know what they mean.

Best,

Andrew

The schools I’m looking into say the same thing. Instead of taking a general history course, a better choice would be a more in depth course like East Asian Studies.

I am pretty sure you don’t have to take upper level math/science courses since a history major doesn’t need them. Even if the school has a math requirement for transfer, they may only ask for calc1/applied calc at the most.
