I am a high school junior in Maryland. Freshman year I had a 2.6 (awful I know didn't try), last year a 3.0 (didn't try hard enough), and this year so far weighted around a 4.0. I haven't taken the SAT yet but I took a practice ACT and got 22 only because I got a 14 on the science section. With a lot of studying I should get a score ranging from a 24-26.

I have a list of schools, but its mostly matches/reaches. So what could be some safeties for me? I am thinking about majoring in some type of communications or sports management but I would be open to something else such as business. I am looking at private and state schools of different sizes. Basically want to go to a school not to homogeneous, with a decent Jewish population, and not a catholic school, and not in a isolated area.

Also this year 3 out of my 5 classes are honors and I am taking at least one AP next year (school doesn’t offer any until junior and senior years). I also am on two varsity sports basketball and baseball, a peer development leader, sports editor for student newspaper, and member of the music club. My school is very tiny so I have a lot of EC’s comparing to the amount available.

I suggest you use the college search section of the website where you sign up for the SAT’s, or any of the other college search services, and play around with the numbers for you SAT’s in the calculations. That will spell out some safety schools for you. Good luck!

Tampa has been on my list but I didn’t know that could be a safety for me. I was thinking Salisbury before not a bad suggestion and I though of Hartford but my dad doesn’t like it because it got bad student review.

The only decent school I know of that’s a safety for you is Hendrix.

Go to the usnews best colleges rankings (search with google if you don’t know) and look around at other LAC’s ranked near Hendrix. (I think Hendrix is ranked 71st, or somewhere around there.)

If you’re not into LAC’s, well I can’t help you other than to suggest your state university (if it’s not really good, i.e. Michigan).

Hendrix isn’t remotely close to a safety for the OP…

His GPA is like 3.30 with an upward trend. So assuming he gets a 25 on the ACT or better, Hendrix is a safety for sure…especially considering he’s from the north.

Overall goodness of the school and selectivity do not go hand in hand. Hendrix is a good school, yes, but they accept 85% of their applicants. If you have above a 3.00 GPA and an ACT score higher than 24, you’re in at Hendrix guaranteed. (Unless you write horrible essays and have no EC’s, etc.)

And two years ago, I believe, Hendrix accepted all of its applicants.
