What counts as an "Honor" on college applications?

I have one (National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar), but I was wondering if Honor Roll counts at all? I feel like one honor sort of makes me look lacking, but maybe I'm mistaken.
Well, actually, I was wondering what counts as an honor in general because couldn't a large variety of things be considered an honor depending on the activity (e.g. becoming President of a club or winning a trophy in a competition)? But those could also be listed under EC, so, frankly, I'm quite confused.
I would really appreciate some help in clearing this up for me! Thanks! :)

Depends on the application. Most will have a separate place for ECs and honors/awards. Academic honors or awards would include things like:
National Merit Scholar
Academic Letter
Honor Roll
Graduating with honors degree
magna cum laude/valdictorian/etc
National Honor Society

Your NHRPS certianly qualifies as an academic honor, as does honor roll. Winning a trophy in a competition probably is more of an EC. Hope that helps.

Depends on the competition - hotdog eating trophy is different from science fair trophy.

Okay, thanks! That helped a lot.

Haha, true. But would a trophy or patch won from, say, Drill Team count? Or would that be EC?

If your painting received judges choice award in a state fair. Would that be considered as honor?

Drill team is EC unless you have not enough for academic honors.

Painting is best listed as an Activity with your award noted there. The Education>Honors section is primarily meant for honors received in academics, not the arts.

Oh, okay, I understand now. Thanks, guys!

Yeah, I was getting worried that it may look bad that I don’t have any ‘honors’.

Honors section gives you an option to select grades 9 through 12. What is PG? can you list academic achievement in 8th grade?

Then in activities section, there is Details, honors won, and accomplishments

Do you write here in few words or you provide description of the honors achieved in few sentences.

PG is the year after you graduate from high school (post graduate). In the Details/honors section it’s not necessary to use complete sentences. Abbreviate and shorten to include info about your involvement and awards. In the limited space available you can do that and still show your voice or your reason for doing something. Examples: “Running marathons is both exhausting and exhilarating” “Found fascinating friends and was proud to be President”
