What counts for my Major GPA?

Hey there, I am an economics major and I currently have a class for my major from community college (Macroeconomics).I got an A in that class and if I add that to my major GPA, I would have a 3.25. Is this allowed or is it only classes for my major from my university?

Generally speaking, when you report a GPA on a resume, you would need to report your GPA from one institution. If you did two years at community college and then started at a four-year university, any courses that you took previously would not factor into your GPA, even if they satisfy graduation requirements.

At my college, my major GPA consisted only of those courses a) taken at the university b) that count toward my major and c) that are listed or crosslisted by the department (for example, it was possible for me to count an economics course toward my political science major, but because it did not have a listing as a political science course, it would not count toward my major GPA).

On a resume, you report the [cumulative] GPA that each institution you attended (you should include all institutions attended in the education section) calculated for you. Your major GPA would only be asked for if you were offered an interview.

In general, courses that count toward the major GPA include courses that are both taken at your home institution and are offered by the department housing your major. The policy can vary by department, and how exactly it should be calculated is a question for your program advisor.
