What courses do you take that make you stand out?

The people I asked about Epidemiology said it was mostly a statistic-based class; I was more interested in learning about the diseases themselves, but I guess that's bio or health (both of which didn't really cover what I am talking about in detail). Also, Bio Ethics seems like a fun class - never really had a chance to write papers about today's most controversial topics.

Would classes like Microbiology and Pathophysiology really stand out on a college app even though they're considered regular level at my high school?

yeah well the best i can do at my school is calc ab...so next year it's stats for me (the class that sr.'s who do not get the 80% prereq in trig for calc, etc, take (obviously not ap or anything))...also probably BC online, well see how that goes...i doubt that would stand out though. i'm also taking bio II (basically ethics) which the teacher pretty much stops teaching half way through the year b/c he realizes that seniors "stop caring". hmmmm

additionally, a majority of those -ologies that are regular for some of you would make you stand out amazingly in the eyes of students at my school. yeah

um i'm like takin AP Chem and AP Physics.... so I stand out..... YAY

oh and btw, I'm in AP Stats whooooooooo ziggy, my stats class is AP even though it SHOULDN'T be whooooo

pretty much I don't stand out at all. hell i'm even an indian tryin to get into med school eventually.

I am SCREWED.

Epidemiology is concerned with the spread of disease and hence probably would contain a great deal of math analysis. The branch studying the diseases themselves is called pathology, and the only places that offer that kind of course are colleges.

I'm talking about in the eyes of adcoms though.

According to this thread... nothing. Well, I'm planning to take two years of accounting...

Anyone with the time, money, and the initiative can easily get through multivariate calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations by the time they graduate high school.

Yes, cooljoe, such courses probably would stand out to some college adcoms (although not the top ones, since they are used to seeing those kind of courses.)
And [Graceful_Spirit], one just needs the time and initiative-my school pays for all college courses taken for credit during the school year.

My county doesn't offer any classes beyond BC Calculus, so in order to take multivariate calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, the students (or their parents) have to pay for tuition at the community college.

Nearly at 1000 posts, kman!

By the way, my school offers a bunch of health science technology courses which allow you to train to be EMT, pharm. tech. etc. Do other schools have such programs?

Yes. Well, the technical center at the far end of my school does.

My school is in a system of three schools (the Tri-Heights Consortium is its formal name) that have various vocational courses. At one time we offered many more courses, but from the sheer number of people going off to four-year schools the program has been reduced.
And yes, I do see that this post is my 1000th and converts me to Senior status.

English IV...

If only people think of vocational education as added experiences and not for people who can't go to colleges...

Um.... Interdisciplinary Studies, AP German, AP French, Calculus, Comparitive Government, AP Chemistry.

I wish I could have taken Theory of Knowlege but I have no room. Also wished my school offered some kind of anthropology or military gov. class. That would have been so cool.

I'm taking Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, and Number Theory. When I said this, people called me a liar. I am not a liar. I am taking them at the University. Not at my high school. None are available at my high school.

I forgot to tell you when. I am taking Multivariable Calc over summer. Then, in a program for my senior year, I am taking Linear Algebra and Differential Equations first semester, and Number Theory second semester just as someone else mentioned. And, i didn't skip a year, i just doubled up at my highschool. I took both Calc 1 and 2 in one year. Each are a semester long because we have block scheduling where we have 4 classes a day.

I'll have taken every AP offered by the history department...(not much of a selection though...Euro, Econ, USH...ugh, I wish we had like psychology and stuff like gov't and stuff...)GRRRR

Anyways, that's my pathetic attempt to stand out...

And if I can figure out how to do this, I might take accounting over the summer at a community college or something...(the nearest college from my house is 45 minutes away...)

Research Computer Science... I made that course. ;)
