With your help, we are well on our way to locating Waldo, finding a past for our presents (especially important this holiday season), and vanquishing our arch-nemeses. As always, we are humbled by the passion, dedication, and intelligence of our applicants. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your UChicago application.

There are three possible decisions, and this is what they mean:

Admit: Congratulations! You have until May 1st to reply to the University of Chicago's offer of admission - don't forget, though, that your housing assignment will be processed according to the date that you submit your enrollment deposit.

Defer: Your application has been deferred to Regular Decision. Our deferred students are not ranked - we're simply hoping to review your application within the context of our entire applicant pool. Rest assured, we historically admit around ten percent of deferred students from the RD pool, and, if UChicago remains your top choice, I've included advice and instructions for deferred applicants below.

Deny: This is a final decision. There is no appeal process, and you will not be able to reapply during Regular Decision.

So what now?

If you've been admitted, head over to our Admitted Student portal, where you'll be able to meet your future classmates and have your questions answered by admissions officers and current students. We're very excited to get to know you better!

If you've been deferred, don't panic! Take a deep breath and read this advice:

Make sure that your school sends us a Mid-Year Report. We occasionally defer students because we want to see your performance in Senior Year. Make sure to send new testing as well, if you have any.

Get in touch with your regional counselor. Let them know that UChicago remains your top choice. Your email should be considerate and specific - take the opportunity to provide a mature argument in favor of your admission! This is the best way to demonstrate your interest in the University of Chicago - not booking an unnecessary flight to campus and banging on the door of the Dean of Admissions.

Continue your college search. There is no such thing as a soul mate school. Explore your educational options and identify a range of schools which will challenge and excite you. Find a number of schools that you'll be proud to call home!

If you've been denied, we wish you the very best as you continue your college search. Please remember that an admissions decision is not an evaluation of you as a person. There are innumerable factors which result in a decision, and, due to a record increase in applications, our applicant pool is more competitive than ever before. As such, it would be impossible to provide appropriate context for our decisions within a conversation over the phone or via email.

Regardless of your decision, you should be very proud of your accomplishments. We feel privileged to have read so many extraordinary applications.

We won't have time to monitor every post here, so as always please email: collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu with questions. Thanks!
