Alright so on my PSAT i had a 68 in reading and a 74 in math..

On my SAT which I got back this morning I got a 560 in reading and a 640 in math?

I'm not so much worried about the math as the reading because english is usually a strongpoint for me....

Anyone have any idea what it might be! I didn't get much sleep the night before and it was the first time taking it for me so I wasn't taking it too seriously but I'm still worried by my score.

Next time get plenty of sleep and take it seriously. Do some practice tests, read some study books. Go to a bookstore and spend some time on their big comfy couches and find some books written in your study style. Then either purchase them or get them from the library, and build some time into your schedule to study.

First of all, like HighlandMom said, being tired etc. is going to have a big impact. Also, remember that the SAT is designed to be harder than the PSAT! Don't worry though, you're clearly capable of scoring well and if you prepare a little bit you should be fine. =) Good luck!

dont worry, you should take it again and learn from your experiences
im pretty sure you were just very nervous and you overthought some of the questions.

The same thing happened to me 78 Cr -> 700 Cr 73 M -> 630 M. This was last June, and I was just impudent and went to bed very late. The next time I took it I went to bed at a reasonable time (10:00) and took the math portion of all of the blue book tests that weren't already written in (the book was second hand). My CR score went back up to 780, M went up to 750, and W went up to 800.

I think that if you take them in march or april you'll do fine!

yea me too! i don't kno what happened. my CR was a 70 on PSATs but on the dec SAT it was a 620. and i got an 80 on PSAT math but i got a 710 on SAT math. WTH!!!!!! ugggh. i hate standardized tests -_-..... can anyone give me advice on how to improve my CR score?

SAT is harder- and because its a reasoning test, your brain has to be on full throttle. Lack of sleep will render you vulnerable to the dirty tricks on the SAT.

dododo, (what, did your keyboard stick?) same song second verse....

Study. You need to take it seriously. Take a few practice tests, see how you do, see what you need to do to maximize your time on the actual day.

I agree with zenbadabing- the SAT is really a ridiculous test of stamina. You have to be extremely well focused and well rested to make it all the way through.

On another note, (assuming you are a junior) you can no longer take the PSAT anymore, but you can take the SAT as many more times as you want! So at least the situation is not flipped =]
