Yeah, can't have all those terrible cooks at MIT. If it helps, I think I had a C+.

I did get the parathruster working and I included an explanation in my mid-year report! ;)

hey ben I emailed my supplement 3 days back, any chance it would have reached my folder :D

Well for the non-cooks, there's always anna's. I haven't missed a day since it opened. Mmmmmm.

hello- definitely a good chance, but I can't say for sure...

actually the problem is, I emailed my supp a week back, but it was an attachment. I got a reply from admissions only on Tuesday-Wednesday (Wed where I live) to send it in as a text message. And I replied immediately.

I was hoping you could make an exception :D (Since its a special case :D)

Hey hello - I'm sure they did everything they could to get it into the committee room before selection started. Try not to worry too much about it if you can help it! :-) I know how nerve-wracking this process can be though...

Thanx for all your help. And I say this on behalf of all the applicants :)

Hmm... I sent an email to admissions@MIT over a week ago, and re-sent it again 3 days ago. I haven't gotten a reply yet. What should I do? (The email's kind of urgent, I think.)

I'm sure they'll get back to you asap. They're pretty swamped over there this time of year...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but then I saw hello's post and he said they replied to him a few days ago. So I just wanted to check.

Thanks.

Ben, here's another question I was wondering. Barring a letter bomb, can a supplement ever hurt an app?

No letter bombs? Aw... I sent in one already. :(

I sent a letter explaining some additions to my application (is that called a supplement?) to admissions@MIT almost one and a half week ago. However, i havent got a reply yet. How can i find out if it has been added to my file?

Also, im from india. Since the application said the Mid year grade report was only for students from US school systems, i didnt bother to send one in. Is that okay?

I think sending emails directly to the international address will be helpful for intls.

Address is mitintl@mit dot edu I think...

Actually i sent a copy toboth places. no dice

they dont answer emails - i have sent one on January 6th and still havent gotten a reply

It sounds like the admissions@mit-dot-edu folks may not be responding to supplement emails, probably because they've gotten so many. Rest assured that they're very dilligent about getting materials to the proper folders as quickly as possible.

KirbusPrime - I doubt that a supplement would ever hurt an app, unless you requested a rec from someone who said horrible things about you for some reason. I'm guessing you'd know before making the request if that was going to happen though. :-)

If I got a 2 B+ on my mid year report one in Orchaestra and one in AP English, would that look so bad. One of them was wrongly reported too, lol.

Also, will the fact that I have to work to support myself be factored into the lack of more ecs and stuff?

Thanks, mp

Considering what you got the B+'s in, the situation doesn't sound too terrible to me. And yes, every case is considered in context, so if you made it clear in your app that your EC's suffered as a result of having to work a lot, we'll definitely respect that.

Hmm, I think I made it pretty clear. I guess I will see if I am good enough overall in the middle of march, lol. Thanks for taking the time to browse these forums.

Well, I got straight 'A's last year as a freshman, including an A in AP Stats, even though the class was pretty easy. This year, in addition to taking the most rigorous course load at my school(I had to push and shove to the AP classes) including AP Phsyics B and AP Computer Science AB, I am self-studying AP Calc BC at home, and am going to take the exam.

My main concern is that even though I do a lot of projects:

I like to experiment with Neural Networks, and am going to do some serious research with prof this summer. (Siemmons, here I come!)
I am writing my own programming language interpreter, which uses a modification of C.
I am working with another prof this summer for Graphics,
I am building my own four function calculator
and countless other stuff.

and also I am doing a big load of EC's this year, most prominently:
Math Club, Model UN(We are best in state), Key Club, Varsity Tennis, Science Olympiad, etc

and Community service, like I do for key club, as well as initiating and leading a school wide tsunami campaign.

But all these EC's take away from my Grades:

I am getting all A's, except for French, which is IBMYP, simply because:
a) The teacher doesn't give A's
b) I had A's for the quarter, but on Exam i messed up.
c) I don't like that class

My SAT is 1410 right now, though I am doing bad in math(720), and could prolly get it to a 1470 or so. My gpa last year was a 4.3125, and this year it is a 4.625, with 4.0 being straight a's, .5 added for honors/IBMYP, and 1 for AP/IB.

All these trips and stuff are screwing me in terms of hw, like each weekend I am going for one competition or another. I don't know... What do you guys think? Am I on track, or just aiming for something beyond my reach.

WARNING: IF YOU RESPOND TO THIS MICHAEL PHAM, I WILL NOT BE HAPPY!!!
