Well I applied to UVA a couple of weeks ago (Im OOS) and I chose the essay about where I'd love to get lost in (talked about Penn Station). Do you think this was a good choice, and also which one did you choose?

I would advise people to not post what they wrote about until tommorow is over.

We’re not posting what we wrote we’re just sharing the topic we chose…what’s so wrong about that?

Anyways, I chose to CAS Question and wrote about a piece of art my mother gave me and then did the question that says “Describe the world you come from…”. I submitted my application late November. Been chillin’ ever since. :)

nicee In general everything’s great except for my test scores, they’re a little low so I hope they really look at the essays!

Same. I know that UVA uses a holistic approach so I’m not too worried. One of my friends got in last year with an 1800 but he is an AMAZING writer and does an endless amount of leadership so he really deserved it. I’m also in-state so I little happy about that too! ;)

I chose the what’s your favorite word question, and wrote about the dance I do (favorite word was the dance’s name (not english haha, hope that’s ok with them!).

i chose fav word and used the word “paradox.” I used it to show my range of interests and hopefully show that I am unique. what did u guys do for the arts and sciences one?

For CAS essay, i dramatized me struggling through a certain trig proof problem. Had some good imagery/details with a solid underlying theme. Nothing great though.
And then I did favorite place to get lost and I put the basketball court a local park. Probably average at best.
I"m just happy I’m done with everything. Now its time to chillax. :)

I absolutely loved my UVA essays. They were BY FAR my best college essays and possibly the best essays I’ve ever written. I’m confident that my essays will actually help me (unless they actually are McEssays).

For the first question about a piece of art that has challenged me, I wrote about my English journal. We had to decorate it with pictures. I talked about how I could conform to the people around me and put pictures of 50 Cent, but in the end I made it my own. It is uniquely written with a lot of imagery.

For the second question (my favorite essay of all time), I wrote about my favorite place to get lost - A bacon egg and cheese sandwich with salt pepper ketchup and hot sauce (also referred to in the essay as BEC). This essay was comical and really showed my personality. I used references to Bible Stories and had a TON of imagery in the essay.

I would happily send my essays to anyone who wants to read them.

UVa or bust, i’ll read yours if you read mine

yea out of all the schools I applied to (UVA actually had the easiest app, becasue imo the essays were so fun to write about :)

UVAorBust and spcampbell1, I’ll be willing to read urs if u guys read mine and just give me your thoughts. cause I’m planning on reusing one of them for another school

Eagles I sent mine to you. I really enjoyed reading your essay. I loved the repetition.

I want to eat the BEC now!

Hopefully the Adcoms want to as well when they read the essay :).

For one of my essays, I chose Van Gogh’s “A Starry Night” as a work of art that challenged me. I explained how Van Gogh’s loose technique helped me change my stringent approach to painting and my perfectionist approach to life.

For my second essay, I chose to disagree with Mark Baurlein’s assertion from his book “The Dumbest Generation”. I hope challenging his assertion didn’t make my essay risky, but I couldn’t help it. I felt very strongly about this one!

I’m willing to read other peoples’ essays if they read mine in return :)

ArtsyGirl, I’ll send you mine now. Ship me yours.

Artsy, I really enjoyed reading your essay. I love seeing how unique each person’s essay is. Everyone takes a different stance on the question and uses their own personal ideas.

ArtsyGirl21 im going to PM mine to you. feel free to PM me w/ ur essays

UVA after reading Artsy’s I totally agree with you. its soo cool to see how people approach the topics. Im starting to think that the adcoms will have a good time reading the essays!

Hey guys, I want someone to read my essays which I wrote last minute without much editing (i found a typo in one of them, oh well) and let me know whether they think they are decent or if they are corny and lame…PM if you’d like to read
