i've already done a post on my own chances, but i've gotten tired of hearing stuff about doing incredible EC's and i'd like to know exactly what it takes to get into Yale. Aren't there and normal people (by Yale standards) or does everyone spend time finding ways to one up one another?

Did anyone without research or awards get in?
(Congrats to all who got in!)

I got in with no reasearch, no awards (outside my school), and no reported AP scores.

Congratulations! This gives us normal folk hope!

Yeah, all the crap you hear about needing 15 AP 5's and international awards is just a big lie. I had nothing in any of those categories, and I got into Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, Duke, Northwestern, and Williams.

same here.. got into Williams without AP scores...

It's nice to see that people think you need standard, forumlaic things -- research, national recognition in something, absolutely no Bs, whatever -- and that people can always get in without those qualities.

i have good grades and 'numbers', but I'm thinking that what mainly got me in was sincerity. I did the cliched essay about a person I met who changed my life but I really meant it and I think that showed through.

Otherwise, while I had leadership positions, I was by no means remarkable.

u guys fail to mention that although u might not have had any "international awards or ap scores" yall were still like ranked #1 or #3 in ur class and scored a 1550 on ur sat
yes very normal
=D

Im me and I'll give you what I've done and my opinion of the admissions game. I got in and I've got a good idea of what admissions is about, although I didn't when I applied. I'd be glad to help out, I feel that is an obligation of us admitees. Im: Denmark105

Aall good numbers plus extensive extracurricular and work experience in filmmaking...won grant on an international level from PBS and have worked/been credited on two feature documentaries.

You guys are the exception to the rule...

well i definitely can say that i was intimidated when i read what some applicantshad going for them. i am a good student, A average, 1420 SAT, i am not at the top of my class i had a few leadership positions, and am fluent in french. i wasnt 100 percent confident with my application, but i did end up getting in! i think the admissions depend on alot more than we think, which is good because now have faith in the admissions process. everyone they accept will add a little something to the yale community as corny as that sounds.. i am not sure exactly what made them accept me but i am happy that they dont only go for the typical A ++ students with millions of APs and so on.. also i thnk my interview went really well and i had amazing recommendations so everything helps

Did you guys apply early? Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applied RD...Question: I used the common app...does Yale have an application other than the common + their supplement? I'm wondering b/c it was the only school I applied to which accepted the common app...then again it's sort of pointless now, just curious.

thanks a lot for your help, ill im you sometime soon.

I am the president of my City Council. I knit sweaters out of organic tree bark for disadvantaged Ethiopians is my spare time. I also put on fundraisers to fund the interest payments on our Nation's debt.

I talked to my admit officer she said it was the essays and a talk with my college counselor. I'm really gald I got to meet my Admission's person! She is sooo nice!

I met with mine as well, and he somehow remembered my application. It was impressive and shocking! :D

Can any one give a basic rundown of their application? I'm also really interested in extracurriculars/ volunteer opportunites and test scores of successful yale applicants. Thanks!
