@bsroxmysox: If this “Hidden Gem” rejects more kids than it accepts, don’t underestimate the number of appeals from waitlisted students–if it’s in the top 30, assume it’s swamped. There are lots of kids trying to get off waitlists at all kinds of schools this year. Be polite, be brief, and good luck.

@ExieMITAlum… Could calling the admissions officer on your own regard and just expressing your continued interest be similar to writing a note? I’ve made it really clear to all of my applied schools that it was me who wanted BS not my parents… And if I did write a letter, would it be bad?

@Albion Wow, I wasn’t expecting my hidden gem school to be on the Top 30 list, but there it is in the 20’s, which may mean you are right. But I also only know of one person on here who applied and was accepted, and another who applied and was waitlisted…so I’m really not too sure about how good my chances are. It seems like a nice school, I have a feeling that they may appreciate someone wanting so bad to go there they send a letter, or that might be my imaginaton talking.

Good luck!
That’s all I’m saying now. I really really hope that you get in-it’ll be the school’s loss if you don’t!

@bsroxmysox: Any school would like a letter from you because you come across as a happy, enthusiastic, and engaged student. Just remember that this board is only focused on a small number of schools–All the boarding schools in the top 30 get lots of letters and calls. So while you may be imagining a neglected school thrilled to get any attention based on what you know from CC, the school is probably doing swift business.
No one knows what chance you have of getting off the wait list. I know it’s tough, but keep working on your studies and enjoying all your pursuits. Try not to worry too much!
