What did you do with bad AP scores?

Has anyone ever gotten bad AP scores and still got into their top tier college?

I have a couple of subpar AP scores. My question is if I should even report them, given that self-reporting is an option.

For people who didn't excel at all their AP exams and were still accepted to Top 20 schools, how did you approach the Common App? Did you choose to simply report the 4's and 5's or did you choose to omit all the scores entirely?

Is there anyone who reported their poor scores and still got into competitive schools (given good ranking/GPA/SAT/ACT/extracurriculars)? I guess I just really wanna know how big a role AP scores play in admission decisions. Some say that it's only for placement purposes, but I feel as if the more competitive schools saw that if I couldn't hold my own on some AP exams, it may call for rejection.

I think it depends on what your top tier school is? are you looking at Ivies? I’m sure at Ives and other schools that accept less than 25-30% of applicants, they will scrutinize every single detail including the scores, but they’ll also look at your overall grade in the class, so I don’t know that a low AP score may make or break you as an applicant, especially at a less selective school.
