What did you get, from where?

I find it helpful to know if the SAT score was obtained on first or multiple sittings and if a lot of effort went into it. I think the default situation is that a lot of effort was expended so I like to know if that was not the case. I use this thread to try to get a notion of how my S compares to the posters so I am glad to get as much info as possible.

A lady at work told me her daughters college scenario

Daughter
ACT:29
GPA: uw 4.02 w 4.70
out of state
URM: no
School:Texas Christian University
Merit Aid only: $14,500yr
EFC amount: none filed

Hope this gives someone a better idea of whats out there.

I’m a student myself, but here’s my info:

White female
3.76UW
2280 SAT

Case Western: $22,500/year
UC Davis: $7,500/year (Regents Scholarship)

I’m in state for UCD

Hello?? My son had a 2090 not a 2250. The only reason I mentioned him not study because there is a big discrepancy between a 34 ACT and a 2090 SAT. Trust me, if I wanted to brag, I could have written a lot more. I just wanted to explain the score difference. I’m sorry if that came off as “in your face.” That was not my intention.

I never thought anyone was bragging, I simply wanted to create a rule for the posts that would give every parent information on searches that they look for most often, without having unnecessary information that takes away from the points needed.

Neighbor’s son’s info
ACT:32
GPA: uw 3.60 w 3.80
out of state
URM: no
School:Tulane
Merit Aid only: $22,000
EFC amount: none filed

Not true, they give many merit awards to students with lesser stats and have decent competitive awards, including full rides. They also have OOS tuition waivers. D rec’d (somewhere around 4.0/4.3/1270, don’t remember exactly) around $4500 merit and instate tuition. Don’t remember if the instate rate was for dual residency/legacy though…

Other results:
Duquesne $7.5K
Butler $10K
St John’s (Queens) $10K
Wilkes $13K
the rest were all small specialty schools (pharmacy) and offered $6-8K each
missed the merit cutoff for UB (instate) but it turned out to be the best package/program anyway!

ME
ACT :34
GPA uw 4.0
URM : Yes
School: Alabama
Merit Received : full tuition

School: Smith College
Merit Received: 15k/year

School: Union College
Merit Received: 10k/year

I also got a National Merit Scholarship from my mom’s work for 2k/year

ahhh…found this for UKentucky…(Don’t know if this is new for upcoming applicants or not.)

**
GSP/GSA Presidential Scholarship**

Students applying with a minimum 1250 SAT (M+CR) or 28 ACT and a 3.30 unweighted high school grade point average will receive a Presidential Scholarship, **which provides in-state tuition and mandatory registration fees **for up to four years of undergraduate study. Minimum test score requirements are based on the composite or total score from one test date. Combined scores, also known as a superscore, from two or more tests will not be considered.

GSP/GSA Provost Scholarship

All other eligible students will receive a Provost Scholarship, which provides $1,500 per year, for up to four years of undergraduate study.

If a student is awarded a Singletary or Patterson Scholarship, that award will replace the Presidential or Provost Scholarship. Students may receive only one scholarship through the Academic Scholarship Program.

The Otis A. Singletary Scholarship
Four-year awards provide tuition, room and board and a yearly stipend of $1,500.

The Presidential Scholarship
Four-year awards that cover the cost of in-state tuition.

The Commonwealth Scholarship
Four-year awards for $2,500 per year; Kentucky applicants only.

The National Excellence Scholarship
Four-year awards for $4,500 per year; non-resident applicants only.

Students may receive only one scholarship through the Academic Scholarship Program. A competitive scholarship offer would replace a Flagship or Provost Scholarship offer.

So, it looks like a student with high stats (don’t know how high) might get a full-ride, and those with at least the specified stats can get the amount of in-state tuiton.

My S received the following merit scholarship offers. All offers were renewable for four years with a 3.0 GPA:

30 ACT
3.8+ WGPA
White Male
99,999 EFC

$9,000/yr – Miami University (Ohio) – where he will attend
$7,300/yr – Marquette University
$5,000/yr – University of San Diego
$2,000/yr – Indiana University

A special note about Indiana – S had a 3.78 WGPA after 6 semesters. If he had a 3.8 at the point of application, he would have qualified for a $9,000/yr scholarship instead of $2,000. They will not look at 7th semester grades!

Miami on the otherhand, specifically alerted applicants to be sure and submit 7th semester grades if it would boost them past a cutoff point! (Miami’s cutoff for its scholarship is 3.7 so it didn’t matter for my S.)

He liked Miami best, and he could attend without the merit scholarship - but its nice to have!

PS - At Miami, to be eligible for the merit scholarship, you still must submit the FAFSA, even if there is no way you would qualify for need-based aid.

a person at Graduation party last night,
