i think the east coast got the leader one and the west coast got the moderation one, not sure about the middle

Well. It’s nice to know I’m not alone. I got the leader essay as well, and I started off with Abe Lincoln and how his racist proclivities and suppression of personal rights is overlooked by the good he did for this country, and how Hitler and Stalin, despite the monsters they were, actually did some good for their countries. Essentially, leaders can’t be judged by different standards because that puts bias into the question. They should be judged by the good they did for their people. Does that sound too bad? Because based on what I’m reading, almost everyone and their grandmother used Hitler and Stalin?

Yea i pretty much said the same exact thing. Do you think it will look bad if I picked Hitler, because a lot of people used him?

@zakkusu - when everyone used Hitler/Stalin they were probably discussing the bad effects of their leadership, not the good they did for their countries, so you might stand out in that respect.

Do they really care if your response is typical or not though? I would think it would be more about how well-developed the response was, the critical thinking, cohesiveness, relevance of examples, etc…

I was for moderation. I used the Tortoise and the Hare as my evidence. For my counter, I used Hitler and Jay Gatsby.

If i wrote 5 paragraph (intro 3 examples and conclusion)
but no impressive vocabs and maybe not very well organization, is it possible still get 8?

I used Lord of Flies, Macbeth and WWII as examples.

Writing and reading is hard for me coz i am ESL, writing an essay in 25 mins with any impressive vocabs and well organization is nearly impossible for me omg.

The essay was pretty straightforward this time around. I used Nixon and Lord of the Flies, pretty sure I got at least a 10.

It is definitely possible to get an 8 without writing anything spectacular. I got an 8 when I was 12 and took the SAT for the first time and was a total moron.

I think mine were pretty unique examples.

Louis XVI and Marie Antionette
Teapot Dome Scandal
Decline of the Han Dynasty in Classical China

I got the moderation essay; used Articles of Confederation and Constitution as one, and Abolitionist/Civil Rights movements as another.

Articles of Confed sucked cause they were too hastily made (failure became apparent by Shay’s; fed gov couldn’t tax or raise an army); Constitution, which had time spent on it is still used to this day.

Abolitionist/Civil rights were both successful because they were change over time. Public opinion as a whole generally changes over time; had they been pushed too strongly too soon, they’d probably have failed.

Created these examples (among others) weeks before the test and made them fit the question.

Didn’t have time for a conclusion, so I’m kinda bummed about that. The proctor only gave us 21 minutes.

Yea i had the leaders essay and i felt really good about it. I had three examples but i couldnt think of a book so used FDR’s New Deal Policies and Jefferson’s Louisiana Purchase. For my last body paragraph, I talked about my sophomore year english teacher who would always joke around in class and act like a kid so the parents thought she was negligent. But in actuality, it made the students want to come to class and allowed the kids to absorb more information.

I got the moderation prompt.

Used Henry Clay’s Compromise of 1850, and Steve Job’s Apple.

Wrote a restatement of thesis for conclusion then ran out for my so-what. Man I had a good one in mind…
oh well we’ll see how it goes.

does anybody know if the SAT looks down on complex theses? For mine, I had three separate sentences that were more sub-paragraph specific instead of one that just listed the examples I was going to use. Will they see this as unorganized?

^Mandu and Jerry4445 got the “West Coast” topic. I like it better than the “East Coast” topic.

For the leader essay, I said leaders could bend the rules for the sake of their people. I paralleled Jefferson’s Lousiana purchase with a personal experience from leadership camp!
I’m not good at thinking of examples :/

I had 5 paragraphs; intro, conclusion, and 3 body. But only one example. I discussed with full detail Abraham Lincoln’s political and social actions during the civil war. Possible to get 11+?

Why did everyone use Lincoln!? It’s just not fair!

i had moderation topic
-took a pro-moderation stance
BP 1: Eisenhower, Harding, and Coolage - moderate president that provided a comforting break in times of change and chaos; symbols of stability
BP 2: Dieting, Athletes - must practice moderation for health

@zakkusu
I think more people used Hitler.

@superexcited
Yeah, you can definitely get an 11+.

The vast majority of people used Hitler, I haven’t seen too many Lincoln examples.
