hey everyone!
when i picked the schools i was going to apply to, i excluded any kind of christian or other religious college, because i don't want any of that to influence the way i live on campus or the education i get. my parents said it wasn't really a good idea to do that because i might be missing out on some great opportunities, but i'm satisfied with the colleges i chose so i'm not planning on changing anything now.
but i'd still like to know: what difference does it make? are boys like not allowed in girls' dorms? is talk about evolution banned from the classrooms? my questions may seem strange, but i don't know anyone who has gone to a christian college and would really like to know if there is any difference.

btw: i don't mean to offend anyone, it's your decision what you believe in and which college you go to, i'm just asking out of pure interest

Christian colleges vary greatly from those you wouldn’t even suspect had Christian roots (like Duke) to those that are extremely conservative and wouldn’t let boys/girls interact in a dorm (like Pensacola Christian College). Then there are several - the majority - in between. The key is to investigate by looking at their websites and/or student handbook. If what you read appeals to you, it’s worth checking out. If it doesn’t, scratch them from the list.

If you’re happy with your college choices, stick with them! :)

No problem with the reply. I don’t check this board too often as it’s not generally busy, but…

You had asked about evolution and I forgot about that one. You also get a variety there. Any of the schools with just Christian roots (such as Duke) will most likely only teach evolution except, perhaps, in a recent topics or theories class. Any thoughts of creation aren’t likely to come up. Any of the far conservative Christian colleges (not sure about Pensacola though) will likely mainly teach about evolution while strongly preferring the evidence for creation (with or without young earth). Those in the middle will vary. Calvin teaches evolution. I haven’t researched too many others I just saw that in one article once (my son applied and was accepted there, but didn’t go). Most will probably teach about all theories even if they hold strongly to one. I just asked my oldest son and he told me his OT prof taught ALL the current major theories including evolution and young earth creation (polar opposites) and wouldn’t tell his students which one he personally believed. He hasn’t taken a science course, so I don’t know (or care) what’s taught there. His future is not in science.

If my middle son (who is interested in science) were to choose a Christian college I would want to be certain all options were taught including evidence for evolution - esp as it applies to current science (rather than historical science which I don’t care as much about). I suspect any Christian college that sends students on to graduate and/or med schools (including some far conservative ones like Liberty) at least teach about evolution even if the majority of those attending there don’t think it happened between major groups of critters. I don’t know for certain. Liberty is not a college on our radar, so we haven’t investigated it. I do know they send students on to med schools though, so it can’t be all bad.
