What do college students eat?

I love fruits and vegetables and y mom always buys organic, natural food. So basically I'm so used to good home-made food that I am scared to eat fast food in college. Are there places to buy fresh food in colleges that aren't in big cities? Are there any kitchens? also, I absolutely despise food like hamburgers, hot-dogs etc...

RIGHT there with you! I absolutely hate the fast food culture and crappy food some people seem to eat on a daily basis. :O

I think your best bet is hitting up the local grocery stores on the weekends, maybe by bus? If you have a specific school in mind, consider posting this question in that particular thread, because there are likely other students in your same situation…no cafeteria food tastes good for very long, in my opinion.

Oi, your wrong paradox…

My schools food is great and most of the stuff they get for it comes in locally…

And op, lighten up a bit… You’ll find yourself less picky when you are hungry…

sandwich, suchi, pizza, salad.

Definitely check out the eating options when you are checking out colleges if that is important to you. You can usually checking the dining options, and the daily menus, on most colleges’ websites.

Most schools today have a lot of very good options for vegetarians and vegans, and also a lot of schools today emphaisze “locavore” practices, trying to use as much as possible from the nearby areas. You won’t have too much difficulty finding appropriate food on campus, although it may become repetitive after awhile. Also, most dorms have kitchens so you also have the option of occasionally preparing your own food. On most campuses, after your first year you can move to an apartment and cook for yourself if that is what you prefer.

Go to a culinary arts school then like Johnson & Wales then you get to eat freshly made food everyday. Some schools have great dining courts like Purdue and Cornell, I can vouch for Purdue’s food since it made me gain 30 lbs along with me lifting and running.

hmmm i think they eat food.

food
10char

Sandwiches, california rolls and taco bell has compromized most of my diet.

At home I always ate raw vegetables and healthy food, so it’s sort of a big transition.

i eat a lot of goldfish. as in the snack. not an actual fish. and chewy bars. and turkey sandwiches. and hershey’s cookie’s n’ creme. and sometimes ice cream

My daughter is lucky to be on an urban campus where there is a farmers market every Saturday AM (spring -December) where she buys fruit, veggies, fresh-made crepes, baked goods, etc.

“i eat a lot of goldfish. as in the snack. not an actual fish. and chewy bars. and turkey sandwiches. and hershey’s cookie’s n’ creme. and sometimes ice cream”

That’s pretty much my diet. Plus bagels. I love bagels. And I do get some apples periodically when my mom brings me some.

Cannibalism is all the rage these days across college campuses.

i dont understand why people are associating urban campus with fresher produce. i go to a “rural” school and there is a weekly farmers market and campus grown produce and our very own dairy products.

Actually I just realized for the last day or two i’ve just been eating cereal and plain piece of bread. :P

Cheeseburgers, pizza, chicken, pasta, and fries. That’s pretty much all I eat.

What I ate:

Rice Krispie cereal (because my school decided that 10:10 AM is a good time to remove the rest of the breakfast stuff like oatmeal)

Tacos for lunch

Some hot chocolate before my chem lab

A pizza for dinner

The problem with my school is that the cafeteria closes VERY early. 8PM on weekdays, 7PM on Friday and Saturday. So after that, your only option is the school sports bar which obviously doesn’t have the healthiest options. Normally it’s fine, but on Sundays for example the sports bar isn’t open so if you don’t eat by 8PM you’re screwed unless you go off campus. And today I had a chem lab that went till 7:45PM. I had to call my parents after, so I missed out on possibly having a healthy dinner and had to opt for either pizza or mozarella sticks or cheese fries.

Organic food is a scam.

Pizza, cookies, french fries, and sometimes chips.

Ouch! That sucks!!

I live at home, yet my family’s diet still mainly consists of fast food for dinner.
