^^quantity? columbia has that in spades since barnard’s right there. quality? i’d give that to nyu for sure.

Lady Gaga v. President Obama.

The proper version of the joke is: “What does a Columbia student have in common with an NYU student? They were both admitted by NYU.” Replace “Columbia” with your state flagship and “NYU” with your state’s historical A&M school, and the joke may work better.

Reading this as an outsider, I’d say that the difference is that Columbia students are much more pretentious and like to bash NYU for no good reason.

@objobs: Indian Optimistic got owned hard =)

ftfy. you’d be hard pressed to run into this many nimwits in 4 years on campus

nyu courant institute and columbia are tied for number 10 in the usnews math grad school rankings.

“Reading this as an outsider, I’d say that the difference is that Columbia students are much more pretentious and like to bash NYU for no good reason.”

And I’d say that you can’t detect blatantly tongue-in-cheek humor ;)

No such thing on a message board.

PaxPax is PaxPax.

Lady Gaga’s numbers are far better than Obama’s right now - score one for NYU.

“What’s the difference between a kid that goes to Columbia and the kid that goes to NYU? The Columbia kid got into NYU.”

Didn’t the kid who goes to NYU also get into NYU?

^yeah the joke was executed wrongly.

as pbr corrected, it’s:

“What does an NYU and a Columbia student have in common? They both got into NYU.”

My guess is that very few of the posters who said Columbia is much better than NYU actually attend Columbia, but are prospective students (who will probably not get in given the low acceptance rate) and people unaffiliated.

Even PaxPax is admitted and hasn’t started yet. Any actual Columbia student in this thread who says NYU is much worse, is completely delusional and not representative of students and alums. Once you graduate / look for jobs / grad schools you realize that NYU is actually a solid school with some very competitive students. NYU’s overall admitted student stats are less impressive, but that doesn’t mean their education is bad or that their output is bad. There are top notch specialized programs as well as awesome research and professional schools as well as all the opportunities of New York city that make it a desirable school.

While we might not think about NYU students much or worry that we are better/worse, putting NYU students down (in a non-joking way), only makes Columbia students seem immature and highly insecure.

Columbia kids stay in dorms while some NYU kids don’t :p

[Overcrowded NYU Sends Students To Hotels](<a href=“HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost”>Overcrowded NYU Sends Students To Hotels | HuffPost College)

LOL. That’s kinda funny.

If you can’t handle that many students, you shouldn’t accept that many.

I said Columbia is better but I dont mean NYU is BAD!!!
Yes, NYU has very solid undergrad programs, but if you have to make a comparison Columbia is way better NYU. People say ranking sucks but ranking reflects Columbia’s reputation.
NYU especially stern is good, but if I must pick the better one, Columbia no doubt.

It’s not so much what you said, but how you said it.

NYU is a good school.
