What do current students think?

Hi! I applied to UGA RD, but I am just wondering what current students think about the school. I do not know anyone who goes there and I have not made a trip to visit yet, although if I am accepted I will visit. So any input would be greatly appreciated!

UGA is a great school where you can make whatever you want of it. You have a ton of opportunities from undergraduate research, study abroad, greek life, etc. Don't let anyone tell you it's a "party school" and that you shouldn't go here. You can do whatever you want to do and be whatever you want to be. Even though there are 30K+ students, you can make the atmosphere a lot smaller simply by making friends and getting involved at least one of HUNDREDS of student organizations.

i want to go there so badly... its sounds wonderful

look at it like this, it is ranked #19 out of all public universities in the nation by Forbes.

I'm enjoying it. My classes are interesting, I'm planning on doing undergraduate research (which is promoted by the university as a whole through the CURO program) which is something I might not be able to do somewhere else, and I'm enjoying a social life which is perfect for me. I'm about as far as you can possibly get for a "party girl," by the way.

Are you from out of state?

im from wisconsin

Beware... they are horrid with out of state admissions. Hope your acceptance does not get pushed off until spring (deferred?). In the fall they notify you plenty in advance of the mandatory orientation and the housing stuff... for Spring, they notify about 2 weeks before the orientation dates (if you are lucky... that cost me about $1000 in travel expenses from all the last minute booking) and housing they can (and will) wait until about 2 weeks before the semester to notify you of if you have a spot in the dorms or not. In the financial aid office they are highly confused when talking about aid for out of state students too, so you'll need to find the amount it costs for everything all on your own when looking to get loans.

I love UGA! It's a great college, and I've met a lot of wonderful people that I could have never imagined befriending. I have went to ZERO parties, got drunk ZERO times, smoked pot ZERO times, although I could've done all of these things as much as I would've wanted to. UGA isn't the big PARTY school as it's sought to be. People do party at fraternities/sororities and in downtown Athens, but if you wanted to, you can avoid it. Classes are difficult so don't expect UGA to be a place to get easy "A's" and to maintain a 4.0 GPA. However, I'd rather make all "B's" here than make all "A's" at another less prestigious university. So, if you get into UGA, I don't see why you shouldn't choose to go to it. Also, the campus may seem big at first, but it's really not that big.
