I’m currently a senior and just submitted my early action applications. I received fee waivers for a few schools, two of them which I am applying to. I received a fee waiver for Fordham University a while ago and just today I received one for Northeastern. I am so lucky that I did not have to apply for financial aid, but I am wondering why I received these fee waivers considering I didn’t express any need for financial help. Maybe because I visited?? If anyone has experience with these waivers, please let me know what the outcome was–are most people who receive waivers accepted or is it just random? Fordham is my top choice so I am very anxious about my application. I would say I have pretty similar stats on Naviance if not slightly lower than the stats on Naviance from my high school. However, I published a book, have meaningful leadership positions in my school, am Hispanic, and did not apply for financial aid. Please let me know if you have information on anything of the things I mentioned, whether it is fee waivers, Fordham, or my application in general. Northeastern is definitely a reach but fingers crossed for Fordham!!
They can give fee waivers to whoever they feel like. Some basically give them to everyone. Other places only give them to people who ask and also demonstrate that they have financial need. Don’t get too excited about this, and don’t fret about it either.
Trying to get more applications to make their yield numbers look good?
Our local schools have “fee waiver day”, where they come out HS and accept applications with no fee.
Sometimes they send them to specific URM or other populations from which they want more applications.
