what do first year auditors actually do?

Hi there,

I just accepted an offer for a Big 4 audit position (in new york), and I will be working for the financial services division. can someone give me an idea of what kind of work I will be expected to perform as a first year associate? Thanks!

Ouch, financial services is the most dull and most hours. Especially mutual funds. You are going to be testing the easiest accounts like cash, AP, expenses, and etc. Then you will be the complete b**ch by footing/tying out the numbers on the financial statements. You will also need to reference each number on the financial to your testing. All crap and brainless. Pretty good compensation and resume builder though! You won’t have fun with the work but you will have fun with the culture.

Enjoy and stay positive.

thanks dawgie! I am hoping to work in their banking & capital markets group or hedge fund group. I’ll see what happens.
