Here's my dilema: I took the SAT 1 in May and did pretty bad (m - 670, Cr - 680, w 610), but I took it the same week as my ap exams, so I'm thinking had I taken it at a time when I was less stressed, I could have done a lot better. I'm a junior right now and want to try to get into the more selective colleges. Most of the ones I am looking at have average score for math and reading in the low or mid 700s. I want to take my SAT again, but most of those same colleges also want subject tests and I haven't done any yet. I want to apply early to college, so I am kind of lost as to what my next step should be.

Any tips for doing better on the SAT would also be appreciated.

Mostly I lose focus and five minutes will go by and I can't tell you where they've gone. I don't know if that's just anxiety or what, but having better focus would probably help.

I think colleges take November test results for early actions/decisions. So you can take SAT I in October and SAT II in November or vice versa. Please somebody correct me if I am wrong on this.

You could possibly try standby registration for the June 7th test and do a few subject tests. You could do the subject tests corresponding to the AP tests you took.

I think you are correct about schools accepting November tests. You can always check the websites of the schools you want to apply to and see what they say about the testing dates.

SATs are overrated ... i got 1810 and i have a 3.95 GPA ... and i got into UMich and UVa and stuff... so that goes to show u SATs aren't everything...and i got a freekin 500 on my CR ....so feel good about urself! :)

My gpa is not so hot (somewhere around 3.85), but I am taking/will take six ap courses, which I generally get a high b or a low a. I am third in my class, so other than my SAT scores, I am not in that bad of shape. Do you thnk they'd over look slightly lower SAT scores because I had As in everything but APUSH?

Your grades seem fine to me. One B isn't going to make admsissions officers say "Oh no no no. they can't come here. They got a B!". But if you do want to retake the SAT (which I might recommend depending on where you want to go), MOST (I would say all but there is probably one exception that would screw me over) schools accept the November SATs even if you're going for early admission. They can't promise that they will see them before they make a decision but they are accepted. Therefore, I would suggest taking the Subject tests in October since you don't have any done yet. This will guarantee that the school of your choice will have everything they need (even if it's not at it's best quite yet). Then retake the SAT in November and hopefully it will get there in time.

Oh! Also, to make it easier on yourself, try to take the Subject test in areas that you've had APs in and/or are good at. It will take down the stress level if you know your stuff!

I took the ap chem exam and thought it wasn't so bad and I took ap history. I want to pursue engineering, so I think that means i have to take the math2 subject test. I have done precalc and trig, so that should be enough, right?
