Well, I guess I’m going on a tangent because I need some of your insights. I just finished my first year at Virginia Tech with an overall GPA of 3.67 while taking 34 credits, making Dean’s List both semesters. Despite this, thinking about going back is making me sick. Not because I am afraid of being independent in college, but I went through a lot in one year and I am not looking forward to returning. Not even the slightest. Unfortunately for me, Virginia Tech is very convenient because money is an issue and I have aid going there, along with a potential degree in Business Information Technology.
My feeling about returning revolve a lot around the people. I did not feel as if I fit in with the people at Virginia Tech. I know the safest and easiest answer is to keep searching for more people like you, but even thinking about returning another semester makes me feel sick. I really, really want a fresh start somewhere new. Again, the problem is, out of state tuition isn’t the most appealing thing. With a 3.67 in college and a 3.99 (weighted) in high school, I do not think I am competitive for the University of Virginia, even though I would love to attend. My high school SATs were low, so that seems out of the question.
My question for you all, is, am I being ungrateful and selfish for not wanting to return to a nice institution like Virginia Tech? Again, for me, it seems to be the people. I am not the biggest partier by any means, and I faced A LOT of hate towards this. Even my future roommates make fun of me for it. I just want to get out and start somewhere where I can have my own face and reach out to the people I feel comfortable with. I don’t know what to do.
I have thought about different schools, as shown in an excel spreadsheet I made. Again, out of state tuition isn’t fun, but I really do show some interest in these. Penn State seemed ideal, although their application for the next semester was already due. I based my new schools partially based off the quality of their information systems program and their reputation as a university.
Here is the chart that I have developed to help figure out which would be most ideal.

For clarification, I have a column for "No Room/Board" because I was going to be paying this expense either way, regardless of where I end up, so it was sort of deceiving for my eyes in terms of how much more I would be paying.
