I recently graduated high school, and am applying to colleges this November. The only problem is as a child I had to move around a lot because my mother was in the military. Every time I started at a new school all their classes were full. So I only have 1 yr of French. I'm applying to many different colleges such as Long Beach and UCLA. What do I do?

So you are in a gap year? You can take it at a CC. You likely just need one semester of college level foreign language to be equivalent to one year level of HS foreign language. In my state, one cannot graduate from HS without 2 yr minimum of world language.

UCs and CSUs require frosh applicants to have level 2 or higher of high school foreign language, a high enough score on SAT subject or AP test in foreign language (probably a common route used by heritage speakers), or a high enough level of college course.

However, note that enrolling in a college after graduating from high school (other than the first summer immediately after graduating from high school) disqualifies you from frosh admissions at UC or CSU. So if you enroll in any community college courses now, you will be committing to the transfer route as far as UCs and CSUs go, where you complete 60 semester or 90 quarter units including prerequisites to your major and breadth/IGETC requirements and apply to transfer to a UC or CSU as a junior. You can check needed courses at [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) .
