Their are no colleges I want to go in my state, and some I just cant get into. My grades are good enough to out of state but my familys money isnt. what do I do? I want to know all the options I have. I have already been told about Loans and I just dont feel confertable getting them. Any answers?

Is Mississippi your State?
What about Millsaps? It’s a very good school and quite different from your State Schools, with merit aid.

Would you be willing to go out of state? How far?

Will your family qualify for need-based aid?
(To have an idea, look at the chart)

If not, would you go after Merit Aid to decrease cost?

For us to give you suggestions we’d need your GPA, your SAT or ACT scores, and anything else important about you (APs, exceptional Extracurriculars, awards, etc)

Look for scholarships, and for schools willing to give you a lot of money to attend.

@myos1634 no virginia is…but i want to go to ole miss, auburn or alabama and yes my family would qualify

If you want to go to an out of state public university and need financial aid, you’ll need high stats (for example 3.5 GPA and 32+ ACT).
What are your stats?

With the stats above you’d qualify for the presidential scholarship, which covers full tuition, and you get $2,500 if you are admitted to the college of engineering at U Alabama. Wiht 30+ you qualify for the same thing but only in the college of engineering. Room and board are left out of pocket.

There is no financial aid (based on financial need) at public universities out of state. If you want to attend a university in the STATE of Mississippi or Alabama, there are lots of them (Millsaps, Birmigham-Southern etc)

What are your stats?

2.9 gpa
1200 SAT
4 honor classes and 3 AP
150+ hours of volunteer
Managed V bball 2 years
2 years of golf
Latin club
Deca club

1200 CR+M or CR+M+W?

I’m going to assume CR+M.

Anyway, forget Auburn and UAlabama, unless your major is part of the Academic Common Market (note: you can’t change it once you’ve been admitted)

At Mississippi State, priority deadlines for scholarships is Dec.1. You must be admitted before being considered for a scholarship, so you should apply ASAP. They require a higher GPA but if your 1200 is CR+M you exceed their minimum and it may even out.

SouthernMiss; you would qualify for an automatic scholarship (the Academic Excellence) and may qualify for the competitive Leadership scholarship.

Millsaps would consider you for need-based aid as well as any potential merit aid.

Yeah I’ve applied to st, I’m just worried about paying, how would grants work?

Out of state public universities do NOT provide financial aid to students who don’t live in their state. It means you get FEDERAL aid, that is, $5,500 in loans, plus Pell Grants if you’re low income and eligible. The only money you can get is merit scholarships: either automatic (you meet the minimum threshold you get it) or competitive (ie, if you’re better or more interesting to them than anybody else, they’ll give it to you, but there’s no guarantee).
So if you’re worried about paying, applying to out of state public universities is not a good idea.
Out of state private universites can do whatever they want, which is why I provided you with links of private universities likely to admit you with need-based and merit-based aid. hey’re small but in big cities where there are lots of students. Millsaps is in Jackson, the capital city, so it’s not like you’ll be alone and isolated. Same thing for BSC, Birmingham isn’t small at all (understatement) :p, etc.
