Hello everyone, I’ll just get right to it. I’m going to be a freshman in the fall and I’m planning on going to med school. Right now, I have my major down as biology; however, I’ve decided to change it due to its enormous class size. And now I have the problem of deciding what to major in instead. I could do a different science major like neuroscience or biochem, but what if I end up deciding not to go through with med school. What will I be able to do with a science major. Nothing really. And so my mind goes to the one thing I’ve loved the most: mathematics. I know that applied mathematics is the more practical route, but the problem with this is that I do not know if my enjoyment of calculus and such will mean that I will also enjoy applied mathematics. How similar or different are the two? All in all, what should I do?
Mathematics is not Calculus alone. Applied mathematics is much broader than that. Look up a course catalog at a university which has an Applied mathematics major and see the range of courses that are part of the curriculum.
