what do i do!!

Last year, i was suspended for two days for punching a student once on the shoulder and saying i was going to kill him after he made some racist remarks. I'm worried that the suspension will eventually present some problems when i apply to U of M. Does anyone know how colleges find out whether or not students have been suspended? I know on the application packet, it asks people, but what method do they use to check. Do they call the school and do a background check? If they do, will they check every applicant or do they do arbitrary checks on random students. Or do you have to send your record to the college along with your transcript.
