If I have a British passport and am therefore of British nationality, but I am Indian by race, what do I put myself down as on my application? Do they want to know your race or your citizenship?

Also, does being an Indian, but living in Italy have any advantage in the applications process (perhaps in terms of international exposure), or am I basically in the same position as the rest of the Asian internationals?

I’d say put yourself down as British. Being Italiany probably helps a little over Indians who have never left the country in terms of more essay blagging opportunity etc.; it definitely won’t hurt.

If you are applying to a UK school, put your self as a British Citizen. I’m not sure if the UK schools do race based scholarships like they do here in the US, but if they do, you might be better off as Indian.

Also, it’s Italian, not Italiany

I know it’s ‘Italian’, but OP said he was just living in Italy so I said Italiany in a more casual way of “person who has lived abroad in Italy”.

As for UK schools, Home status and Overseas status has HUGE differences in terms of funding etc. and this is mainly based on tax/residency rather than citizenship, though I presume OP was asking about US apps.
