Hi guys!

I am currently a sophomore in High School and I want to know what I have to do in order to meet requirements to possibly be accepted into UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCI or any other. If I do apply, I don't live in California so my chances are lowered a lot.

About me:
-I am currently in the IB program at my school
-I am a sophomore (just incase you didnt catch that haha)
-My current Unweighted GPA for sophomore year is a 4.0 but I screwed up freshman year so my overall unweighted GPA is a 3.6
-My weighted GPA is a 4.5
-I've been in Varsity Tennis since 8th grade and plan staying in it until 12 grade
-I've been volunteering at the Hospital for a year and a half now
-I've played the piano for 13 years and the cello for 4 years
-I'm in various clubs around school including Beta Club, Music Honors Society, French Honors Society, National Juniors Honors Society
-I want to be a bio major or something that can put me in the track for a medical career
-I've been a Girl Scout since the beginning and I am about to finish the highest award (similar to Eagle Scout)

I know all the clubs are just extra little filler things but I want to know what I can do to get accepted.. freshman year I got 4 B's which was pretty bad so I hope they overlook that....

Thank you in advance :-)

Luckily for you, UC does not count your freshman year. You need to continue taking the hardest classes that your school offers while getting high grades. Aim for 2000+ on the SAT and come back at the end of your junior year to update your profile. Good luck!

thank you so much! :)

lucky for you they don’t look at freshman year grades
you should be aiming for a 4.20+ for your UC 10-11 weighted GPA. that’s basically your GPA for sophomore and junior years with extra points for IB and AP classes. it’s a little more complicated than that but you can look that up yourself. you look like you’re in good shape though. also, getting a 4.0 UW will greatly boost your chances.

in terms of classes you should take, it’s recommended to take 4 years of math and 3 years each of science, foreign language, and social studies. the rest (English, visual arts, history, etc.) are the usual UC requirements which you can also look up. take the most rigorous courseload you can handle. UC’s compare you with your classmates, so make sure that your courseload is as tough or more tough than those of the top students in your class.

try to get 2100+ on the SAT or 30+ on the ACT. SAT subject tests are not required and only recommended if you apply to the School of Engineering.

your ECs look pretty solid. continue to stay committed and look for leadership opportunities. the clubs won’t mean much unless you have leadership positions or do something to change the community through them.

you’re on the right track!

Keep it up! Stay involved at school, don’t slack, get a good SAT/ACT score, and you’re in. :)

^ I posted that before you changed it from just UCLA. Berkeley is basically the same.
the other UCs are a little easier.
