What do I have to do to get on the right track???

Okay so I'm currently a sophomore in high school and never really had any interest in going to college until a few days ago when I just... randomly decided I wanted to go, and now I'm really interested into going college but I really want to go to University of Miami but. dont think I could even get into it since i havent really started off strong in my freshmen and sophomore year. Im in 10th grade and I havent taken any special classes at all but I have all A's and B' and a 3.6 or 3.4 I'm not sure. My school doesnt offer any IB/honor classes or any other type of classes that could help me when applying for college, but only ap classes. Next school year I plan to take AP classes now. I havent participated in any extracurricular activities but now that I plan on going to college the next school year I will join as many as I can.I don't really go to a good school whereas it seems most of the teachers dont really care for students education, but only there for a paycheck... The overall SAT scores at my school are 1200 Do you think I still have a chance at actually being accepted in a school even though I havent really done anything that makes me stand out from others in my 9-10 year? Is it too late for me? If I still have a chance what are some other things I can do to get on the right track to get accepted into my dream school?

(You mean in Florida, right?)

“now that I plan on going to college the next school year I will join as many as I can”

Quality > quantity.

“The overall SAT scores at my school are 1200”

Out of 1600, or out of 2400?
Either way, you aren’t defined by your high school. Going to a suckish high school actually makes it easier to stand out.

Do well on the SAT/ACT, begin to get basically all As, and take advanced courses.
Join ECs that interest you. Find something to do this summer, like a job or volunteering. If you were more specific about what you’re interested in we could probably be more helpful.

So, here in the U.S. of A, it’s never too late. Really, never. You could be at the end of your senior year with a 1.0 GPA and it still wouldn’t be too late. There is always hope to changing yourself and finding opportunities in this country’s education system. You said you have between a 3.4-3.6, and if you were to devote your time to a few extracurriculars and pull off decent SAT scores, then you’ll most definitely get into college (a really good one, too)!

Out of 2400 and I can be more specfic with w.e you need to know to help me I dont know if you will see this reply im new to this site so yea i can be more specific and

when u say quality over quantity what ec do you recommend me doing then?? thanks

I know you were responding to the other poster - but quality over quantity doesn’t mean any specific ECs… just find one or two that you really love or feel passionate about. If you like art, join a Fine Arts Club. If you like Civil Rights, perhaps join GSA. It all depends on you.

oh and also yea the one in florida

thats fine i appreciate all the answers i can get  but oh alright thanks

and what are some things i can do to try to get scholarships???

I think it’s really great you changed your mind. About scholarships, try to do extra curriculars. You might get scholarships from competitions. It also looks good when applying for scholarships.

Most of your financial aid will be from the college you go to. The merit aid will be based on your grades, scores, ECs, essays, and other factors. So if you do well on your college apps in general you’ll get merit aid, unless the school you go to doesn’t give merit aid. (You can also get need-based aid.)
Another thing you can do is get a high score on the PSAT during your junior year. You’ll be eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholarship and some others.
