Hi
I am new here, and I just got to High School this year.
I am from Slovenia, a small country in central europe (not Slovakia!).
I'm on one of the most competitive high schools in Slovenia.
So... I am aiming to get in Ivy league schools, or UCs (most likely Berkeley or UCLA) or Stanford
What should I do?
Is it a lot harder for someone who isn't from the US to get on a great school?
I know I should have a lot of extracurriculars, but how important is it?
What else is very important to get to this schools?
Financial aid for internationals?

have a nice day :)

Financial aid is pretty much nonexistant for internationals. It is a LOT harder for internationals to get in.

Basically, expect to pay full sticker price if you want to go to an American school, if you even get in.

Can your parents afford to pay $40-50k a year for school? If not then I highly suggest looking at your home country.

4 of the Ivies are need-blind and full-need, so you’ll get as much FA as you need if you get into those (and that’s a big IF, but it’s just as difficult to get into need-aware schools when you’re an international needing FA). Other need-blind colleges: Williams, Middlebury, Amherst. Keep in mind that all of these are EXTREMELY selective.

The UCs do not offer financial aid for internationals.

There are plenty of schools in the Midwest and elsewhere that accept internationals and offer merit aid. They’re generally not the most selective. It all depends on your academic stats. Use the Collegeboard search tool to look for colleges that offer aid to internationals and accept students within a certain SAT/GPA range.

Also, if you just started high school (depending on how many years high school goes on for in Slovenia) you probably have loads of time!

thanks guys
high school here takes 4 years
the only difference is the primary school and middle school - we have both combined in one
we start HS at the age of 14/15 so I guess that’s not a problem
i will do some research to find out stuff that I need to know
and again, thanks :)
