What do I need for a good portfolio

Im only a sophomore, but I’m already set on going to Tisch. I am involved with acting, singing, and dancing programs and I get straight A’s and I got a B this semester. I take all honors and AP classes and have done plays and musicals. I know that they base acceptance mainly off of the Audition and Portfolio. I was wondering what things I can get involved with, or experience I can get to add to my portfolio.

It is not clear from your post, but are you trying to go to college for musical theater performance? If so, there is NO portfolio to be admitted, but only an audition (and application).

Get involved with training in voice, ballet/jazz dance and acting. Audition a lot. Participate in plays and musicals, both youth productions and adult productions if you can. Learn to play the piano.

Do not have your heart set on ONE school. Tisch is great, but so are lots of other musical theater college programs. The acceptance rates are very very low. Next year, explore in depth the many college MT programs that are out there and visit some and cast a wide net when you apply, and don’t focus on one school only. There are many colleges where you could be happy.

Read College Confidential’s Musical Theater forum, not just the NYU/Tisch subforum, and you will find lots of pertinent information as a starting point.
