For high school, my teachers always left it up to us in terms of binders/notebooks/folders and I've always known what's best for me. At Notre Dame, do the professors care what students use? Is taking notes on a laptop common, or would I be the odd one out if I always had my laptop out in class? Thanks!

If it makes a difference I’m double majoring in business and econ

From the professors I’ve had, most of them will let you know whether or not you can use a laptop in class (usually they’ll say it on the first day of class or put it in the syllabus). Honestly, it really is what works best for you. I’m an econ major and I prefer to use a notebook just because of all the graphs I have to draw but at the same time there are some people in my class that use laptops to take notes. Like I said, it really depends on what works best for you.

Some profs are more strict than others about using laptops in class. It’s usually fine for larger lecture classes, but I would suggest going the notebook-and-pen route for your FYS seminar, etc.

I would suggest bringing two or three notebooks, two or three binders, a hole-puncher, and basic writing supplies to start. See how your classes go from there and you should be set.

Good luck getting everything together!
