What do I need to do to get into Deerfield.

I was an A- to an A student in sixth grade. My school doesn’t have A+'s. I am considering applying to
Deerfield
Hotckiss
Andover
Exeter.
What do I need to do to get into these schools in the future, thanks!

Though I’m leaning to Deerfield at present.

Apply.

Try to be more specific.

Thanks, I meant what GPA will I need and what SSAT scores will I need.

You can ask the current students that question too. As far as I know, there are no set numbers to be given. Try your best. The higher the better.

Those schools expect that applicants will be “pretty much straight A” students (quote from a meeting at Hotchkiss). Based on sporadically published data, it appears that most students in those schools earned at least an 85% on SSATs, and for some it will be closer to 95%. They expect very good recommendations from teachers and others who know you well. They expect you to write good essays and interview well. The expect you to play a sport (and if you are very very good at it, that can be a strong plus). They expect you to have done something for your community.

However, it is worth noting that you can be all of those things above, and still not be accepted to any of those schools. That can be disheartening, but what it really comes down to is 1)if you want to go, you need to maximize your chances by doing all of these things and 2)you may want to consider why you want to go these very specific schools and learn about other schools that will also meet your needs, to enhance your chances of acceptance.

Kudos to you for starting a bit early and for having ambitious goals.

@6teenSearch
thank you, I was just naming a few of some schools most famous that I had heard of and whos websites I had visited.

Keep in mind that there are plenty of excellent schools out there that are not “the most famous” ones mentioned most often on the forum! Many of them are very selective, but without the huge number of applications that the “famous schools” get, thereby giving you a better shot at admission. Widen your net and look for schools that will be a great fit for you, and not just a big name. Check out the threads here on “Hidden Gems” schools. Good luck!

@cameo43
exactly, thats what I said before, I probably should have phrased, what do I need to d to get into a selective boarding school?

Andover once published 93% average on SSAT, but that was a few years ago. Check out the website and see if they still report such stats.

Actually I just find this thread:

In addition to what has already been said, don’t lean towards any school until you actually have an acceptance from them.

If you are hooked or have an interesting story then an SSAT score of 85th percentile or above is enough. Higher the better.

If you are unhooked or need financial aid there is magic cutoff. Just work hard, apply to a wide range of schools and hope for the best.

@sgopal2
thank you very much!

Just curios, has the Ask-a-student page been working for you on the Deerfield website?
