Thank you in advance. Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Looking at the stats profile, it's always seemed to me that GPA mattered more than test scores, which seem important but not that important.

hey that sounds a lot like me!

im also in state, female, competitive public HS in NOVA

gpa is also the same...but i had like a 3.96 after the first semester of senior year.

and i was accepted with a 30 on my ACTs. dont worry toooo much. maybe try to get over a 2000? idk much about sats

Obviously SAT scores are considered in the UVa admissions process.

However, Dean J has said before that SAT scores, which represent how you did in four hours of standardized testing, don't matter nearly as much as how and what you did in four years of high school classes. Do your best on the SAT (and SAT II) tests, but don't overestimate their importance.

A recent Dean J quote pertaining to the importance of certain activities in the admissions decision making process also applies to SAT scores.

[quote]
The strength of your curriculum, your course selections, and your grades are much bigger factors.

Also, essays give you an opportunity to stand out and above other strong applicants with outstanding credentials. Don't underestimate the impact these essays can have on UVa's decision to offer, waitlist or deny.

Bottom line: Mediocre essays don’t impress the UVa Admissions’ Officers, and very likely won’t result in an Offer of Admission. If you truly want to attend the University of Virginia, you’d better write outstanding application essays. Make this a real priority when you’re preparing your UVa Application.

Do your best on the standardized tests, but pour your time, attention, creativity and talent into the application essays. In the end, these essays can make or break your application.

Sorry but I would disagree that essays make or break an application. They are pretty much secondary.

Guillaume - I agree with Hopeful here. The essays are HUGE when deciding acceptances. It is there only shot at getting to know the candidate. Numbers are numbers, but words are magic. Essays can turn a mediocre application and send it blazing into the "accepted" bin.

is it harder to get into UVA as a female than a male? Maybe colleges should start affirmative action for men :D
