Right now I have a total of 44% in my math class. This only includes one exam and three quizzes. What do I need to get on my other exam and on my final and on the other seven quizzes, to at least pass this class with a C?

Grading Structure
Quiz: 20%: 10 quizzes
Exam 1: 25%
Exam 2: 25%
Final exam 30%

Grading Scale
A 90-100%
B 80-90%
C 70-80%
D 60-70%
F <60%

Okay, let’s play math. Each quiz is worth 2% of your grade (10 quizzes, 20% total). The first exam is worth 25%. That means you’ve accounted for 31% (25 + 3*2) of your grade so far.

(.31 * 44%) + (.69 * average on remaining stuff) = end result
You want a 70% at the end, so plug that in as the desired result.
(.31 * 44%) + (.69 * average on remaining stuff) = 70%
Solve for the remaining variable…
average on remaining assignments = about 82%

That means you need to be averaging about a B on the remaining assignments to get a C in the course.

In general, these problems are just a weighted average. If you want to find your grade in the class, you sum up the percent the assignment is worth multiplied by the score earned on that portion. So, in this case you would do:
(0.20 * quizscores) + (0.25 * exam1score) + (0.25 * exam2_score) + …, where all the scores are percents.

Figuring this out on your own would have been a good way to study for your math class. ;)
