I was curious what GPA is needed to keep my merit scholarship for this last semester of senior year. Last semester I got all As and 1 B out of 8 IB classes. This semester, it seems I might get 2 As and the rest Bs, maybe even a C. Will this be enough to keep my merit scholarship? I’m pretty nervous about getting it taken away.
Thanks
You mean your GPA in high school? You can sleep well tonight, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. There is no minimum GPA for your last semester of high school to keep your scholarship. Those grades aren’t even close to putting you in danger of anything, including losing your merit scholarship. At the very worst, Tulane might send you a letter reminding you that college is hard work and that you will have to be sure to get things back on track, but I don’t think those grades will even trigger that letter.
Still, the message is one you will want to keep in mind. The freedom you will feel being away at college can be very seductive and lead to some bad study habits, including severe procrastination. Better that you get into the right mental mindset before heading to Tulane and come up with a plan that balances work and play. You do have to maintain a 2.7+ to keep the non-full tuition scholarships, and a 3.0+ to keep the DHS or PTA. That should be very easy for you to do if you manage your time well and ask for help early if you need it. One of the biggest mistakes students make, especially freshmen, besides bad time management is waiting far too long to avail themselves of the many resources Tulane provides to help you with your schoolwork. Usually good time management is enough, but if you find yourself getting lower grades than you know you should be getting early on, seek help right away. It is a lot easier to get your grade up when there are still several papers and/or tests remaining than trying to get it all done on the final exam.
Oh my goodness, you just took SO much stress of my shoulders! Thank you so much! Yes, grades are typically very important to me (despite this last semester’s report), and I appreciate your advice!
