What do I need to memorize for the SAT Chemistry test?

I have the Barron’s book for SAT Chemistry Subject Test. Do I just need to memorize the “Important Equations/Formulas” section or do I need to memorize the Useful Tables as well. I guess I have to memorize all the formulas in the back of the book for the Math 2 Barron’s Prep too?

In general, that stuff is probably there because you should memorize it. However straight memorization doesn’t work so well. You need to understand it and how to apply it. They aren’t going to give you a problem that just involves knowing a formula.

Ok so I should probably memorize the important equations and constants, but what about the tables with enthalpies, free energy, and heats of reaction or will those be given as needed in the questions?

I wouldn’t memorize tables. That is ridiculous. Maybe get an idea of what the data in the tables is doing.

You need to study but you are not going to do well on STEM tests just memorizing. You need to study to different kinds of problems and be able to solve them. Any SAT or AP test has tricks for people who just know the formulas. It helps to memorize formulas, but you seem to be putting too much emphasis on memorization.

Tagging onto this thread but is the content covered by the SAT subject test the same content covered by AP? Where are the content disparities

Do I need to memorize the polyatomic ions for the test?

There are 4 real tests in the official study guide, which will give you an idea what you need to know. As I implied earlier, memorizing a bunch of crap is not going to help you much. You need to study and understand the material in Barrons and similar books.

You probably should have the polyatomic equations memorized, be able to balance chemical equations, write Lewis diagrams, determine molar mass, and stochiometry for starters.
