What do I need to work on the most

I'm currently a sophomore in High School. (Live in St. Louis, MO) I signed up for a Summer School program this summer, where we will be going to Maryville University for 3 weeks every day to listen to guest speakers, visit some local universities & college fairs, that sort of thing. It sort of got me wondering, and somewhat worried, because I haven't thought much about what college I want to go.

My GPA is currently 3.71 after 4 semesters (not so happy about it). When I took the PLAN test (pre-act thing) I got an estimated ACT score of something like 29-32. So far I have taken one honors class. Next year I am taking AP Gov, honors chem, AP Environmental Science, and AP Lit & comp, I'm really intending on loading up on these hard classes. I feel like I have not challenged myself so far and I really want to have some higher thinking things on my transcript...

What I'm most worried about is extracurricular activities. I'm only a part of Marching Band, really. I intend on become a section leader senior year, and next year I want to volunteer to be a "group leader" for 6th grade camp. Doing this will get me all of my A+ hours, but I don't think many 4-year universities consider the A+ program. I do want to get a job this summer.. but other than this, I don't really have any activities, and I'm completely stumped on what I should do. I really want to try to run for Student gov next year, but I'm afraid when faced with the opportunity I wont take it. How many ECs do I really need to have to be viable for acceptance? What should I do on top of what I have to showcase my 'strengths'

I'm not too worried about an essay or a possible interview, I'm a really good speaker/writer and from reading essays of accepted students I think I can probably come up with something.

I really want to go to Wash U, but their average gpa is 3.9 and ACT is 33. Seeing as I got a 3.7 unweighted sophomore year, is this out of my league? 20% are accepted and I would be ecstatic to be accepted there but not 'heartbroken' if I were declined. I do intending on preparing a LOT for the act, but if things go wrong I may just go to SLU.

My question is, what should I do more of to help make myself more well-rounded, i guess?

Am I allowed to bump these threads

Guess I’ll throw another horseshoe this way.
