what do i need?

i need to know what all i NEED to take with me to college, and would like to know what i could start getting now for the fall next year. i am the first in my house to go away for college and we have no idea of what to start buying ??

please help :‘( i am a clueless incoming freshmen :’(

Wow, excited already are we? I didn’t start getting stuff until about a month ago, and I leave Friday. Well, a lot of what you can bring depends on how big the dorms are. Some are tiny where you barely have room for the beds, and others are really big and spacious. But what you could do is find the sales that are on right now for Twin XL bedsheets, since those are hard to find. Target or
In all honesty, though, you shouldn’t be thinking about this now. Not until you know for sure where you’re going. And seeing as you’ve got a year, you’re waaay too far ahead. See where you get in first.

i do know where i am going  i am going to Midway College, i have already been admitted in :)

There are tons of college packing lists on CC already to look at.

I just did a search for “packing” and this is what it comes up with: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/search.php?searchid=32553108

Okay, so how are the dorms? Have you visited campus yet? Give me an idea of how spacious the dorms are and maybe I can help you from there.

Because although there are lots of lists of stuff to bring, it’s definitely not going to fit in a dorm.

You could always check out iluvpiano’s list.

^because that one is way too long.

Check out the one that’s flagged on the first page. It’s pretty good, just tailor it to your personal needs.

iluvpiano 2.0 in the works?

Okay, OP, look.
I know you’re excited. I was in your shoes a year ago. But to be honest, you won’t be able to keep it up if you keep thinking about college for another year. You will be utterly exhausted. The excitement will wear away and it will be hard to think about it when you need to. Trust me.
You have twelve months. Twelve whole months. Enjoy your last year in high school (I’m assuming you’re a senior, yes?) At times, it’ll seem like you can’t stand the wait, but cherish these last months.
And stop thinking about packing already. The sales are almost all over. They’ll come around again in around ten months.

^ OP is an incoming Freshman, likely on the quarter system like us.

^ The OP said for the fall NEXT YEAR. I’m confused as to why you think she’s a freshmen already.

Hahaha…very funny comments about my list…just to let you know, I did cut down those lists a little bit, but I still brought a lot of stuff and it all fits. So you’re next question is probably how it all fits…yes, it all fits and there is still a large walkway space in my room, and no, I didn’t take up any of my roommate’s space. If you don’t believe me, send me a PM with your email and I’ll send you pictures of how the room is set up. I took pictures already for someone else (not for CC ppl though). It fits, and people have commented on how neat our room looks and how organized it is…so I think we did a pretty good job and got a ton of stuff in. It’s all in HOW you organize the room…we figured out how to do that the right way.

^^ The problem isn’t getting stuff in…it’s getting stuff out. Over 9 months you’ll accumulate more things, not less. And it’ll take forever to move out.

Yeah I know, but I plan on taking winter stuff home already during spring break to get rid of that, and then we also have a week break between 2nd semester’s end and beginning of May Term classes, so I can bring stuff home then too that I won’t need and not have it all left to take home on the official move out day.

Well, the OP said “i am a clueless incoming freshmen” and (s)he knows where (s)he will be going next year, so I made the assumption. The “next year” thing did throw me off, though. I’m still not entirely sure.

Although now, after reading OP’s posts again, I think I was wrong.

^And if she was on the quarter system, then she’d be in trouble. I mean, wouldn’t she be leaving in the next week or something? Shouldn’t she have thought of this before?

Haha yeah, that’s part of why I think I was wrong.

the rooms are 13’ 8" (long) x 11’ 10" (wide), in the freshmen dorm, and yes i have visited the college, this is what is already in the room:

Two (2) or Three (3) beds and mattresses (some can be bunked)—bring extra long twin sheets
• Two (2) or Three (3) desks and desk chairs
• Two (2) or Three (3) chest of drawers
• Two (2) door-less closets with built-in shelves
• One (1) wardrobe in triple occupancy rooms
• Ceiling Fan
• Temperature control—heating and cooling are controlled with a thermostat in your room.
