What do I put for religion on application?

My parents are Christians, but I believe in absolutely none of Christianity. I find myself mostly to be a nontheistic Buddhist or an atheist. I fear that putting something other than Christian would come back to haunt me, i.e. my redneck school system that teaches that “Evolution is a myth and has no facts supporting it.” That is the exact words of one of teacher in my district! Would my school find out if I stopped lying about my religion, being the Bible Belters they are? Also, would being a Buddhist or atheist be like minority status?

This is a serious post! Please be nice.

Just put no religion or sth like that. This is the 21st century, tons of people probably enter that.

I think the only way your school could find out would be if your college counselor has access to your Common Application online. This can only be the case, I believe, if you give the counselor access permission. If you are at a typical public school, it is very unlikely to be an issue. Counselors in most public schools just don’t have enough time to look over common aps. Colleges are not going to bring it up or ask about it in any way.
Although Buddhism is a minority religion in the US, it won’t gain you any sort of status at most schools, nor will atheist.
