I asked one of my teachers and she said she'll gladly write me one. I know I have to give her an addressed and stamped envelope... but what else? I'm using the common app online to apply ED to NYU. Are there certain forms for NYU specifically that have to be printed and filled out? Or is it electronic?! I'm sort of confused, so any help is appreciated.

Omg stupid typo in the title, that bothers me so much. Sorry! “What do I give to my teacher for a recommendation letter”* is what I meant! :(

Since NYU accepts the Common Application, there are recommendation forms from the Common App website that you can print out and give to people who will provide recommendations for you. I remember that is what my son did.

You are right to include addressed and stamped envelopes for recommendation letters as a courtesy.

No envelopes required. It’s electronic now. Create a common app account and add NYU as a school. Work on your application on the common app website. You can see the recommendation form there (look under school forms). At any point, even before submitting the rest of the application, you can and should add your teacher as a recommender in the appropriate spot on the common app. When you ask your teacher if she’ll recommend you, you can tell her to expect an email from the common app. Once you invite her, you will be able to see on your common app page whether she’s completed the rec and submitted it. It’s fine if she submits it before you finish the rest of your application. If she doesn’t want to do it online, she’ll still thet option to complete a paper recommendation, but most teachers will do it online. You can and should do your entire submission electronically.

Thank you both for advice. Since I’m doing the application electronically, I’ll invite her via the common app as niceday suggested. Hopefully I do it right!
