What do kids do for fun at GU?

What do most of you do for fun on the weekends at GU? is it a big drinking school? Are there sufficient parties? I go to U. of Delaware right now, and there are never a shortage of parties etc. Do you find yourself able to go out to some sort of party type event every weekend, or do you find yourself sitting in your dormroom bored a lot...

I've yet to have a boring weekend at Georgetown. There's always a ton of stuff going on during the weekends. People typically go out Thursday-Saturday.

If you are a hardcore partier, you probably won't be dissapointed at Georgetown, and if you're not you won't be disappointed either. Georgetown is predominantly a hard alcohol sort of place. There's usually a lot of drinking in the supposedely dry underclassmen dorms, and then upperclassmen will have parties in on campus apartments or off campus townhouses.

To be honest, it's really hard NOT to go out at Georgetown, which can make it difficult to balance your work/courseload. I think I can count the number of times I've stayed in on a weekend night on one hand, and I don't think that's too unusual. In terms of non-drinking stuff, there's always a lot of theatre and cultural show stuff going on during weekends, and obviously DC has a ton of things to offer. I know a lot of people who don't drink and who still go to parties and have a good time as well. A lot of Georgetown parties probably defy typical US college parties due to the high international student ratio of the University, so you'll definitely see a lot of pure dance parties.

Most Georgetown students stay on campus during the weekend, but a lot of people will go clubbing in DC at least. Of course, you could spend a lot more time in DC and it really depends on the person.

Seriously, when I got here I knew Georgetown was known as a real work hard/party hard sort of place, but I was surprised as to the exact extent. During the warm weather months especially it's insane.

That's great to hear. Thanks for the info. Are there many house/apartment type parties that are fairly easy to get into? I like to meet new people all the time..

My guess would be that, as on many other campuses, being a freshman guy will make it difficult for you to get into the upperclass parties (unless you have older friends) if you are a freshman girl, however, they basically roll out the red carpet to you. Nonetheless, I'm sure there's plenty of sick stuff to do

For the most part people are pretty cool about letting anyone into parties. If it's a big one sometimes you might need to be with someone to get in, but the issue with freshman guys not being able to get into parties isn't really a big deal here. I've seen that happen at maybe one or two parties before, and usually those are the parties you will never want to go back to anyway. As I said before, Georgetown parties are not normal college parties. Much more likely to be someting involving a name like "German Sexx Techno Rave" (I didn't make that one up, I swear!) with lots of Svedka, than your typical kegger in Collegeville, USA.

I'll be a sophomore if I get in. not a freshman ;)

Generally people are pretty open with parties, especially if it's in their backyard. If it's a small party then you might have to know the people that live there or go with someone that does. Or have a favorable guy to girl ratio if guys are throwing the party. There is plenty of stuff to do besides partying too, like there are shows or other events going on pretty much every weekend.

i agree with absolutely everything that Copley has said.

Unless there's an absolutely crazy amount of work to do for the following week, people definitely go out Friday and Saturday night (Thursday nights are up and down depending on the week). It can sometimes be difficult if you're a freshman or don't know anyone but Georgetown's a social school and it is very easy to meet people in class and outside of class. I'm a junior now and I usually have to show my face at 2-3 parties a night if I go out but freshman and sophomore year, I was usually at one party the whole night. Once you become an upperclassmen, everyone you know owns an apartment or townhouse so there are so many more parties to go to.

the bar scene is fantastic once you turn of-age.

people get drunk all the time, if you cant finish a 5th by the middle of your sophomore year, you are studying too much,, RHINO is the only bar you ever should go to

Is going out to bars and restaurants around Georgetown expensive?

We study, hang in the library, drink lots of coffee, take long walks to get rid of our angst, surf the net, call our family, hug our girlfriends, and try to get through till Monday. Oh, some of our classmates act like druken idiots, very drunken idiots, but most of us do it "by the book."

Rhino is a Syracuse bar. In the middle of Georgetown. That's almost reason enough never to go there. Plus, they still serve "freedom fries."

On the plus side, their Friday happy hour is pretty chill. DC is an expensive city, so you tend to look for those. Of course, there's a lot of Georgetown students with money to burn, so $6 Coronas don't phase them.

they get crunk!!

sorry, I couldn't resist. In all seriousness, GU seems to have the perfect social life as well as academics. I'm not sure who would worry about attending GU.
