an art class and 3 other classes

my school works on an A-day/B-day block schedule so we take all eight classes all year long - finals usually hurt my year grade

ECs- Varsity Tennis, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Junior Class Council, National Society of Black Engineers, HOSA(won 1st place in sports medicine regional competition, 3rd place in state competition), Unity Club, Outward Bound alum, athletic trainer, Junior Marshal (reserved for top 5% of class), National Honor Society, founder of Campus Greens chapter at my school (organization associated with the Green Political Party), Spanish Honor Society, Muslim Student Association (I am not a Muslim but I like helping the Muslim members of my community, especially here in the south) – I am obviously not active in all of these right now - this is a list of the clubs that I have joined and been active in over the past 3 years

hoping to go into urban planning/revitalization and so i'd be applying to maryland's department of urban geography and regional development

I'd say really good - in or out of state.

out of state

I still think really really good!

i had stats somewhat similiar to yours and i was offered a full scholarship and i am instate..so i would say your chances are excellent you maybe me in the running for various scholarships

you are so in. id be surprised if you didnt get into honors.

bumpetybump

I just went and took a tour of Maryland. I have similar SATs and GPA, accept my SAT was a 2010 and my GPA unweighted is a 3.6. I am from NY (out of state, clearly) and they only accept 30% from out of state, and then of that 30% you have a 49% of getting in (thats what the assistant of admissions said, as well as this handbook they gave us). You have good grades, but it is getting SO hard to get into these state schools now if you are out of state, I wish you the best of luck.

Jenlynn..You mean that of the 30% they take from Out of State only 49% will be in honors? Not sure what you are saying...Are you applying?

I think Shinobi has an excellent chance of getting in..I just would caution her not to count on scholarships. You have to have certain Stats just to be considered for one and then you still never know. I think it would also be tougher getting one for an out of stater..but I think Shinobi may get one...but just dont count on anything.

bumpety bumpety bump

No, I wasn't talking honors. I am saying the TOTAL population of the fresh class... 30% out of state only, 70% from Maryland. Then if you're in the 30%... you have a 49% chance of getting in. But still, say there are 100 people applying from OFS. 100 gets broken up to 30, then to 14...

It's a KILLER getting in from out of state. Very frustrating, but if it's something you want, pursue it. Mine was estatic to even get waitlisted but got lucky....although she hounded and called, wrote letters, sent emails..I doubt seriously anyone showed as much interest or desire to get in as my d. She visited ad. counselors several times and kept in contact by email. Grades and sat's were below MD standards (act was ok, so that's what they took), but not many apply from WV and that plus other things made her stand out. I think it maybe harder for NY or NJ b/c they have so many applicants, but one thing they stress is diversity. Also, in one visit, the counselor was actually reading notes from online, I think it was her application...and she was making comments like, "Oh, you visited back in Oct and then in Jan. You called and spoke with so and so....when is your audition?" I guess everything you do is documented. I think they let her in to shut her up!My advice is to have someone who knows you in admissions.

Ah you think thats a killer..you should try getting into UNC where they take what works out to 700 from out of state or a measly 17% and those must have a hook of some sort. My D. with her high stats was so upset when she got waitlisted there and they told her had she been in state she would have been in.
Anyway worked out for the best.
Congrats to your D. She deserves it and we want to see her cheering at the WVU game which is the only one we are going to..(hubby went to WVU)..I hear the crowd gets rowdy!
